Absolutely amazing if that's the issue.  I'll keep you posted.  I'll be pissed if they make me pay fire all that crap they put on.  They had it for 4 weeks and this is the 3rd time they had it for this issue.  This last time I told them I didn't want it back until it was fixed.

Personally, I would want to see if I could eliminate the problem by trimming/removing the heat shield; if I found i could fix it that way, I would just call it good, let the dealer believe they fixed it and move on.
I mean, you're gonna feel pretty silly if they decide to charge YOU for the work they've done that was created by YOUR aftermarket parts. You'll have little defense other than "y'all should've spotted it"

If the front lever or the rear brake pedal cannot return "all the way" to the off position, the little bleeder hole in the master cylinder cannot return the fluid from the line.  Over a period of time riding/driving the brake will self pressurize and the brakes will drag.

I had this problem on the front brake of my '76 FL until I replaced the master cylinder.

If anyone from the old days drove VW's, the brake pedals on the old bugs used to get gunked up and would not come all the way back up and the car would start to slow down.  When that happened I'd reach down with my heel and pull the peddle back up and the car would speed up.  Eventually cleaning and greasing the pedals fixed the problem.

If the heat shields are moving and stopping the rear brake pedal from a FULL off return, the same thing will happen, the piston will not be back all the way and it will block the return port in the master cylinder.

Good luck with your fix at the dealership.

If the dealership insists you pay for their "replace a bunch of parts until we stumble on the answer" method of diagnosis, you can argue with them but if you lose then insist they give you all those take-off parts that had nothing wrong with them to begin with.  I think you mentioned a master cylinder and the ABS parts, plus whatever else they may have changed.  Whatever they replaced, if they want to charge you for those parts then they are obligated to give you the parts they took off.

This is a good example of why I don't believe in or condone the "replace parts until you stumble on the cause" method.  The ABS HCU can be tested, and if it tests OK you don't just throw it away and buy a new one.  A master cylinder can also be tested, and can also be overhauled with a kit, rather than buy a complete master cylinder.

Hopefully this heat shield issue is the answer to the problem.  A little judicious work with a small grinder should take care of it.  Good luck.

I had this problem last year when the cooled down  ...I had both front and rear  brakes
however after riding  few miles ..I would go to apply my rear brake and the pedal went all the way down no brakes  then I also noticed it took more throttle  to sustain the same speed and the motor felt like it was laboring  ...kinda like going up a steep hill
after replacing my rear rotor, pads and master cylinder  finally figured out the problem
my exhaust is V&H propipe   the front heatshield  the one that runs next to brake pedal,
when the exhaust and shield get hot and expand it was pushing/rubbing my pedal ever so slightly but just enough that after a few miles I would lose rear brakes ...I will try to post a pic of my burnt up rear rotor for ya

Thanks for this info.  This was the issue.  Long story short,  they replaced the clamps and had a notch cut out of the shield.  I  .  Think the newer pro pipes have this notch cut.

This shop does all my maintenance and repairs.  Lets say I was pleasantly surprised how they handled billing. Yes they should of found it but they knew when it's time to do the ethical thing.  I did end up purchasing a pair of chaps and some small items I always wanted but couldn't justify the cost till now.

Thanks again everyone!

My goodness, replacing parts based on lack of knowledge Is the dealers fault and should not become the customers problem.

So it ended up being the case you weren't charged for any of the ineffective repair attempts?  If so that's great and so pleased to read that in the end the shop treated you as well as they should have.

I wasn't charged for ineffective parts replaced.  I purchased the bike at a different shop but all maintenance was done at this shop. Great people.  The biggest thing is I never raised my voice.  I treated them like humans even when it was taking forever. I do maintenance so I know how goofy you can look trouble shooting and repairs
