Reinstalled and polished  When you stand and look at it you can't see that there were any scratches at all. I've got 3m armour to pot on to stop any further problem

That's slicker than socks on a rooster, Pete.  Maybe a product that actually works as advertised....good deal.  :2vrolijk_21:

I can related....  and yes, genuine 3M Stone Guard is the way to go. About $16 for a 12" x 24" sheet on eBay.

My wife has several pair of western boots that have metal decorations that she wears with her denim shorts. The metal bits scuffed the bejeesus out of the paint on the side covers. At first I just accepted it as "normal wear and tear" but finally decided to cut my losses by doing a buff-out and covering the contact spot with the 3M material.  So far so good, but I'm guessing I'll need to replace the film every few years after it begins to look ratty. No big deal, there's enough material in that one sheet for 4 more sets.

I also can relate and have had to buff out those wonderful scratches. I will try that paint scratch rub as well as I need to go over this older bikes finish from previous owners lack of paint protection.  :2vrolijk_21:

Hmmmm,

I never get scratches in my side covers.  Could be I do not have a passenger seat on any of my 3 bikes, do not even have rear foot pegs or floor boards even on my RG Ultra.

You guys are to tolerant of carelessness and these ladies. I dare you muck up her stuff and see if she just shrugs it off and fixes it herself, over and over. My bet is you'll get cussed and blasted for not being careful and disrespecting her stuff. Boots with metal ornament on the inside are NOIT motorcycle boots period.

I have a pair of jeans that I really like but they have metal buttons of some sort adorning the rear pockets and I will not wear them in the Bentley. Oh I could but who would knowingly wear clothes that damage the expensive machinery? Not at my house.

Just my .02....

It's a machine... not a museum piece and I never love anything that can't love me back.

Therefore, my lovely wife who definitely loves me back is more than welcome to wear her fancy boots and heavily studded, rhinestoned and fancy-buttoned encrusted Miss Me jeans and shorts on Blue if that makes her happy... and it does.

After all, if she's happy, I'm happy...   :bananarock:

I applaud you Sir; you responded quite well considering. I am of the same mind concerning my sweet wife.   :2vrolijk_21:

The OP was looking for ways to stop scratching the paint and that is what I was recommending. The 3M film is a great way to protect paint and if you have too use damaging riding apparel then go for it.

My lovely wife and sweet daughter have more respect for me and my money and equipment than to purposely damage the bike. It's you bike , money and wife so if that's how ya'll roll then so be it but I see it another way and my family agrees.
