Everything looses $$ except maybe gold.  So the simple solution is to keep your bike. My 2010 has a better stereo, better suspension, better engine, runs cooler, is faster that the 15's and looks 95% the same. After all, we buy these antiquated heat traps to stay in touch of a by gone era. Some strange nostalgia, a herd mentality? Feeling included? Etc.  So all these bikes are essentially the same right? So why are you beating the down dealers door trying to loose $$, unload it and replace it with a like machine? Keep the dam thing and ride it for decades to come. To me, seeing a high mileage, well used Harley says something about the owner and brand. A statement of sorts that tells a story.  A bike that becomes "yours", one that you bond with and personalize. A machine that you live with long term.  Shows maturity and commitment. Sows that you don't need the latest and greatest all the time even though you can afford it. A peaceful contentment. Forgiveness of its short comings. No pines envy. Not following the latest trend like a snot nosed teenager.   Keep your bikes. ( Or by that bagger. Eventually we all get them, and then keep it ) Be proud to say I have 200,000 miles on it and its 20 years old.   Oh, and please don't wear so much Harley cloths. Some riders really look like dicks all decked out in Harley garb. Head to toe with rings and chains. Even the hair cut.  Look like some circus performer. Trying way to hard and missing the point all together.  Cheers all.  :2vrolijk_21:

I know this topic is a monthh old but I had to respond to this one. I agree wth EVERY word in the post. Especially the clothing part. What is that exactly...LOL. I went to a couple HOG get together for a group ride and swear to god they looked like a bunch of old fat Pirates. Old and fat is enough without everyone decking out in the pirate costumes...LOL.

Funny but true story coming. After several months to a year of hanging at the dealership and what not, I have started recognizing some of these folks. I swear to god they come into the dealership after work looking like lawyers all decked out in suites but on friday, they try to look like... well... PIRATES! it's even funnier when the husband and wife both have all the latest Harley gear on... chaps and all...LOL.

OOPS... one more thing. I really was not sure if I got a deal or not but for 23,500 they sold me the 2013 CVO RK... with a 3 year full warranty and 4 services a year for three years.  It had 2500 miles on it. I purchased it November 2014. Reading this thread... I am thinking I made out good.

No, they didn't. Now I feel ripped off. They said the eye patch only comes with a new CVO and the previous owner did not give it back with the bike.

Why would it matter what Victory would give you they don't make anything worth trading for?  :-\

:worthless: WHAT'S THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM ON THIS DISCUSSION???
We are all talking about the value of a used Harley, the price of a new one, and how much we have in our bikes. The reality is that Harley has sold bikes using a magician's "smoke and mirrors" tactic for years. In the most recent past,  (the period that it seems most of the riders can still remember), the Soft Tail Springer came out and the dealerships were taking names and calling people if they got an extra one in stock that wasn't pre-sold. When the 100th anniversary bike came out, (2003) we were all told they would increase in value, "because HD was only going to produce a limited quantity of each model", and they were also priced higher than their counterparts. When the CVO market started, we all felt like we were getting a deal if we got them anywhere  close to MSRP, and again told about the limited production and the way they would hold value in the future.
Now after years of abuse, loss of trade values, overpriced new stock, and poor customer service what do we do???? We piss and moan about how much of a bath we are going to take when it is time to buy a new bike. (This includes me, I can't seem to unload my $42K SEEG for even a couple of thousand below book!)
What is even worse, is all the threads, after years of this type of treatment and lack of interest, and HD flooding the market, members still talk about getting another one. We seem to be willing to "bend over and take it again, and don't even get a kiss!) :-*
I used to understand the attachment to HD, but that was pre 1969, nothing has seemed to lead toward building allegiance to the brand since the original company sold out.
I for one would strongly consider never buying a new HD, (and take advantage of the weak resale values that have been created), and would even look at the competition for the first time in over 40 years on a Harley. At the very least, if I go into a dealership, I would be going in knowing I could take the half price of a new bike and use it for toilet paper and be ahead of the game, at least I got some benefit out of the $10, 15, and even 20k that I will have to give up when I sell a Harley in today's market.
BUT, GUESS WHAT????? I AM SURE MANY OF US WILL BE BACK AT THE LOCAL DEALER WHEN WE WANT A NEW RIDE!!! :D

Private party sale is still an area where I think you can do good with patience.

Find out where a HOG rally is in your area and advertise there, because regardless what you think or don't think about HOG...a rally sells bikes.

I bought my first one because of the National rally invasion in Chattanooga 2005 introduced me to custom bikes and got me very interested in it.   I had no interest in going to a dealership before that and for months after that I still didn't want any part of it.    I still don't like going there to this day but realize I must occasionally when something is needed and it can't wait a few days.   I'm not the only person like this.   Others don't want anything to do with the dealership experience.

Loved seeing the custom bikes.

Thats what I bought, a fully decked out 96 Fatboy with 10,000 miles.    Guarantee I paid more than a trade would have been and couldn't have been happier.    Changed very few things after that, still runs great today.

There are those of us who appreciate private party sales, and those of us who can get the money ourselves.   Yes I know dealer can finance and all that.    I'll never sell my bikes but if I do, it will be private party.

Mine have always real close to NADA indicated book value, now $3,000 less is another story.
I saw one same color as yours with all kinds of upgrade motorwork etc. Asking $38000. :nervous:
