Howie, after you've had it a few days and had a chance to really look it over up close and think about it I'd love to read your take on the look of the saddlebags.

I gotta tell you Don, I was never a fan of them. I already bought a set of hard bags from an'03 Gold SERK to have painted to match/compliment the paint scheme. Maybe they'll grow on me and I'll use them for shorter trips. But for 2-up longer trips, I like the larger, lockable hard bags. It'll be good to have both. I can change the look when I want to. You also won't see very many '07SERK's with hard bags and S&S SPO's. I told you I like to be different! ::) Hoist! 8-)

Congratulations on the new ride Howie.  That's one sweet looking machine!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Thanks a lot Bob. It's 23 degrees here now. I'm going to pick it up in about an hour or two. Let's see how long I last today riding around the city in circles with no purpose except to get miles on my brand new SERK! I'll try to get some more pics up tonight. ;) Hoist! 8-)

Come on Howie, you just don't want to CVO Card yourself at events.

Hope you get out today, but if it stays cold I wouldn't blame you if you stayed in and waxed the SERK.

That's something of a relief to read Howie.  I was hoping I wasn't the only person that wasn't wild about those bags.  Love the rest of the bike.  From the first moment saw a picture of one thought the bags were weak though.  If they were going to go leather they should have color keyed the bags with panels of color coordinated leather to each color bag.  But the bags as they are, against the bikes as they, just look like someone had the late thought "hey, lets use leather bags" and then never really integrated them with the package.

Howie,
You'd be a fan of leather bags if you had a set from Aligator Bob like the ones on Elvis

Brian, you're killing me here. You know I didn't mean your alligator bags. I was never crazy about HD's stock leather bags on the RK's. 2 PM is frozen tundra time for me, I'll catch you later. ;) Hoist! 8-)

I didn't mind them on my last Road King Classic.  A little extra dress up on them and was a big fan actually.  They just don't seem to match the lines and look of the SERK though.

Don,
That's the sweetest looking RKC I've ever seen. Thanks for posting the pic. Too bad the MoCo didn't deliver a SERK along those lines.  Somebody at the MoCo has some major stock in a leather company or else there's no way we'd be seeing stuff like the Ninja Turtle hump on the SEUC's or these atrocities on the 07 SERKs.

Howie,
You wound me brother. The Big E has Crocodile, Ostrich and Scottish leather bags. Alligator is rather pedestrian - - - - don't you agree  ;D

Can't disagree at all Spider.  Not a fan of either of those options.  Sometimes trying too hard to be new or different just ends up being ineffective or even a wee bit ugly.

Don,
Is that pic a member's bike or something you pull from somewhere. For a non CVO it sure is sweet. If it is a member, who is it ? Wanted to compliment him. I get dissed ocassionally on the wide whites. I've said before they look good in some situations and not in others. The pic you posted illustrates when they are the right look. They'd be gawd awful on LD. Funny thing is, Elvis being lighter and stripped down in comparison to LD, the Big E handles better. I do the SoCal lane dance at any speed on Elvis. It gets dicey on LD at anything over 90. Of course to some the wide whites mean I'm an old man who doesn't ride worth a chit. (you know who you are buckwheat) I think those that have ridden with me know otherwise. Ok I'm off topic here. Thanks again for a nice picture of a real "classic" H-D

Brian, that's the Road King I had right before the red bike.  It was a 2000 model I had until getting the red bike.  It had covered a lot of ground when I sold it.  Was the bike that I just could not imagine getting rid of.  Completely dialed in to how I wanted it esthetically and used it riding.  Then I saw the red SEEGs.

Was actually very tempted to keep it.  But knew the way I use the machines that this would mean it basically didn't get ridden anymore.  And that seemed wrong.  So it went to a good home that would treat it as well as I had.  Here's another shot that a guy at a rally made up.

Here's a quiz for you.  Here the bike is on one of its several little road trips.  You should be able to tell me where it is?

No way I could have let that go had it been mine. You have a fine eye for good looking motorcycles my friend. Must be like seeing an old girlfriend with a new guy every time you run into " her "

I'll say it again - - - - that's a sweet ride buddy

Thanks Brian.  Appreciate that a lot.  I did really enjoy that bike a great deal.  As much as I might "miss" any object or thing I guess I miss it occasionally too.  Though I really don't do that kind of thing all that much.  The nice thing about it that always comforts me though when the thought occurs is that early 2000s Road Kings just get cheaper and cheaper.  And the base platform for that was just a plain jane single color red bike.  I've got all the changes I ever made listed.  So I can have the fun of doing the whole thing again anytime I want to.

By the way Bri, that last picture was looking over Bah Hahbah  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] .
