What a GREAT find!
« on: September 08, 2015, 08:40:46 AM »

Sunday, while headed back to the house from a trip thru Bugtussle, TX (really) stopped for fuel at FM 121 and I 75 (Van Alstyne, TX).  I pulled up to the second isle of pumps, the station I was at had two pump handles, but one wasn't green as usual.  I couldn't believe my eyes, it said 100 octane racing fuel on the tag!  Price was $6.99'9 so I figgered WTF, right?  Put 4.7 gallons in.  It took about 20 miles for it to kick in, but Ol' Blue started to belch fire and ran like a scalded dog!  Reminded me of the ol' Bonneville when ya could find aviation fuel every once in a while, used to love the blue flames at sunset.

I'm far from an expert, but have been told its not a good idea to flip-flop. Can you get this(is it close) all the time?

Maybe someone who is or has been in the industry can chime in here, but I always understood that high-octane racing fuel in and of itself does not make a car faster, and it does not produce higher horsepower. Octane is simply the ability to resist detonation.

So if your motor was performing to its optimum using the lower recommended fuel then using a higher octane fuel would produce nothing you didn't already have.

Not sayin I got more HP or torque, jus sayin it reminded me of the dual carb Bonny when it pop, pop, popped downshiftin' to take a sweeper.  Me thinks throttle response might of been crisper...OR it coulda been that I jus paid 7 bucks a gallon for fuel and the placebo effect really kicked in!  Jus sayin...
