Cylinder Head Torque settings
« on: November 01, 2015, 06:08:45 PM »

Clarification please.

For 110" head refurb, when I come to reassemble what is the best head gasket and what are the relevant torque wrench settings. Are the other gaskets ok to be HD or are there better ones.
Read on another site that the Head Nuts/bolts go together without Loctite, is this so?

If you use MOCO head gaskets (which are just fine) use the MOCO torqueing procedure outlined in the service manual.

If you use Cometic head gaskets (recommended), use the Cometic torqueing procedure that will come with the gaskets.

I lightly oil the head studs/bolts.  Do not use Locktite on them...

We use a dot of oil on the threads, and the same 10/20/30/42 ft/lbs as well.
Some people will go to a dedicated ft/lb setting then 90* bolt turn, but not as accurate.
