113 piston cc
« on: November 11, 2015, 09:04:02 PM »

Looking at options for pistons and having troubles locating information on the dome volumes for 113 pistons. The only ones that I can come up with is the Mahle 10.5 and it appears to have a 9cc dome. The 24D cam is what I am wanting to match up to and running that through the calculator puts the CCP way to high. Who else is handling pistons and any ideas what their dome volume is?

How about a 113" flatop?
Or a 6cc dome? HD 22571-07B

The flat top may very well be the way to go for me. Any idea what the cc on them would be with the valve reliefs?

I did the suburban speed 113 kit, and 24d cam, but i cut down the domes @ .045, excellent tune no ping at all, even had to run 89 octane once, only ping i got was in traffic and hot temps, in the 90s, but only got a ping when starting from a dead stop 2 up, with 93 octane never any ping anytime. Only cost a couple of hp by dropping compression a little, but more than makes up for it with the overall drivability.

We offer a  Flat top & 4.2 CC dome made from 4032.    Dome would  produce 10.2 with a 040 or 10.4 with a 030 HG based on a 95 cc chamber . Flat top will make 9.9 with a 030 and stock chamber. So enough ways there to get you right where you need to be.

The Mahle is a great  piston however it is extremely under cut underneath the dome and you will be under spec on piston dome thickness if you mill it . I had a customer bring a kit from S Speed  I also spoke with Rick and we checked with Mahle as well .  He wanted less comp ratio as well.  That is based on what the manufacture states min spec is . I am well aware that some have milled them. We just use another piston now that we can offer other dome thickness.

17000 miles on mine cut down and no problem what so ever, but i agree having to not cut down and use a piston made to what you need is always the best choice

The SE piston can be cut and there are offerings from KB also forged 4032.

The SE piston can be cut .

Have you measured them the SE versions?? Wiseco makes correct..  I know that the 120R dome that Wiseco makes people have cut them but you end up under spec on them as well..

Chico sounds like you ended about where I want to be. I am about 260lbs and wife isn't a small girl either so most of the time the bike is loaded pretty well. We don't have access to 93 around here anymore, 91 is as good as it gets and would really like to be in a position where if 89 was all there was out on the road bike would still be happy. Do you have any idea where you ended on CCP?

Steve that 4.2 cc.piston would put me right around that 195 CCP range and in my mind, yes I know thats a very empty place, that would be a very tunable motor for the gas and the heat we have here.

Yes it would work out very well as would the flat top .. The issue you run into with the CVO heads is that the chamber volume's vary. You may have a set that at 93 CC vs the next at 97.. SO many times for a bolt together as it looks like you are doing ,.. you might want to look at the flat top and use the 030 gasket and make a light skim cut if you need to increase it a bit  to keep the comp ratio to your spec. Just a though. hard to know what you really have until you take it apart.. Just complete a set of CVO heads that have 92.7 chambers in stock form. Valve job and such will alter that but you did not mention anything about that.  I would say that best is to take it apart measure the chamber and check TDC

As for Suburban Speed  I do not believe they make any other piston that the one for the 113.  :nixweiss:
