Polyurethane Riser Bushing Install and Torque Values?
« on: November 24, 2015, 10:28:58 PM »

Before doing installation of new 14 inch Factory 47 MALO Bars on a 2009 FLTRSE3. Upon reading the touring manual and the Manual for FLTRSE3 and instructions from the 56298-03A PDF.  The final tighten step(TORQUE) is "SNUG".  I would assume that there is a real Torque value when tightening these riser bushing bolts to eliminate the event of catastrophic failure or excessive flexing forward and aft.  The old Rubber bushings had a torque of 30-40 Ft Lbs.  What have others done for torque value when installing these taller handlebars.

The instructions I read indicated to use the same torque spec that's in the manual for your bike.  In other words, if your manual calls for 30 - 40 ft-lb, then use that figure.  "Snug" is a meaningless term that might be used for initial assembly of parts, but it's not the final value.  So you might be told to snug up the fasteners first to check alignment, etc., but that has to be followed by tightening to the correct torque.

Thanks Jerry appreciate the reply and feedback.  Harley service department said snug and nothing more than that.  Lol!  I figured 35ft lbs would be sufficient for the torque.
