EXHAUST UPGRADE
« on: November 29, 2015, 07:47:02 PM »

Looking for some advice. I have a stock 14 CVO RK and would like go to a set up with V&H power duals with V&H oversized 450s & Screaming Eagle tuner with a dyno. I've read some post that OS 450s baffles are too large and there is a drop in torque at low end. My question is with a dyno tune would this remove that problem. Not sure if other guys with that problem just did slip on QS 450s or went with the complete package like i am going to do. My dealership right now has free dyno with $1000 spent on upgrade to engine so I would for sure qualify for dyno. Any response would be appreciated as this will be a $2000 package even with free dyno.
thanks

I don't have knowledge of the mufflers but I seriously doubt that you will get any kind of real dyno tune with the dealers "free" dyno offer.  I'm guessing that at best you will get a download and a free dyno run----not a real tune.

x 2 that you will likely just get a download. You get what you pay for on that deal. Which dealer is this?

And yes, with a catless headpipe, any baffle bigger than 2-2.25 " you will lose low end tq, especially those mega large 3" baffles meant to be run on catted headpipes.

V&H power dual headpipe and Kury Crusher muffs.......mellows if you want quiet power.
Or Fullsac DX headpipes and have Fullsac re-core your muffs. And get a quality tune, you'll be glad you did.

Buy the pipes yourself. About 470 for that head pipe and around 640 for muffler you mention. Then find a 20 percent off dealer for the race tuner. Most local dealers offer a 20 percent day each year. And all seem to have a local hog chapter 15 percent off attendance discount. So about1500 package with you doing labor. Dyno  tunes cost about 250 here.  Still ahead 250

Your profile doesn't say where you live. Its helpful to know, sometimes folks know a good tuner close to where you live that they can recommend. Do yourself a favor and don't let the dealer tune your bike. Most, but not all dealers do not have a qualified tech that can or will take the time to properly tune your bike. Most times as said already they download a canned tune that is close...and run it on the dyno. Do a search on tuners....it will provide you with hours of entertaining reading and several horror stories.
Find a good independent tuner, I would leave it stock before a dealer tuner would touch it.

If I go with a TTS tuner and full sac head pipes and muffler rebuild will a dyno really be needed?

You can get away with a canned map but it won't be the very best tune you can get. A good tuner will always bring out a little more and really make the bike shine. I have run Steve's canned map for almost 2 years and am very happy with it. I am going to wait for cams and other goodies before dyno tuning. If you buy the tuner from Fulsac he can supply you with a tune via e mail that you can download into your computer via a laptop. I did everything myself in an afternoon and am very limited in my computer skills.

The big V&H's are just to large for a stock motorcycle. You have to be wanting them because of looks and not really performance. You maybe don't understand what the dyno tuning is in that the operator of the dyno can only improve on the efficiency of the engine, which increases power, he has no control over the operation of the exhaust you choose.
Buy the package from Steve and use his supplied map, I PROMISE it will be equal if not better than what the free deal from your dealer will give you.
