Baker Reverse gear kit
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:01:00 AM »

I have had this Baker reverse kit sitting around for a while now.
At the moment the weather sucks, looks like its Baker time. LOL
What i have found out about this kit, it is a total master piece, the fit and quality is fantastic. Much better than OEM Harley.
So far i am very happy with the product not so cheap but you get what you pay for.. :2vrolijk_21:
I also repainted the starter as the factory paint was flaking off, and decided to fit up a chrome inner primary cover, bit more bling  :)

If you go to the Baker website you can go on there email list, they send out the odd special from time to time.
I picked up the kit at 20% off think i paid around $1400 US with all the options, post was a lot $500 US so total was around $1900 US
about $2700 AUST fitting the kit has taken me two days, i dont know what a dealer would charge. I don't trust them with my toy  :nervous: LOL..

Without a doubt the best addition I made to my Ultra! It's nice to never have to worry about where you park.

Many thanks Skycat .... Postage costs are certainly a killer for us guys apart from the poor AUD, but there are some products where we simply have no choice.

Just go back from a road test and a play, WOW this is the best mod i have done to any Haley and its such a Hoot to back up a hill  ;D
The trans shifts much better and finding neutral is a breeze, shifting into reverse is simple no clunks, just goes straight in. Every touring Harley should have this feature from stock !!!!!!

Be careful.  We had a Baker reverse put in a trike and the chrome started coming off the side cover (their side cover)  and their solution was for me to remove it and pay for them to rechrome it----knowing that they had some bad chrome on pieces.  And the rechrome wasn't cheap.  No one likes chrome peeling off their Harley.

Thanks for the heads up Steve - I'll keep an eye on my cover to see of it starts to peel... I sure do like this mod and so far it's been trouble free.

All,

I have a question which I already PM's Kirk about.

Any of you guys who have the 6FR installed have you experienced any problems going from Reverse Gear into 1st gear? The reason i ask is that I am experiencing not being able to engage 1st gear after I have operated the bike in reverse. I have to turn the bike off and manually by hand lift the gear sector into 1st gear and then ride off. Bike is the 2010 CVO ULTRA c/w HD 120R, c/w stock HD 6 speed.

Also, did you guys do tour own installation or have Baker do the install?

I am going to have Jim at metal Dragon look into the problem for me.

Thanks,

geezerglide

I've had the F6R in my Ultra for 2 years and about 12,000 miles now. On average, I probably use reverse 4 or 5 times every time I go out because I purposely park where and how others can't, just because I can. I've never had any issue shifting into or out of reverse. In fact, after the kit was installed, every shift, up and down, have been very smooth and positive feeling.

To your second question, Steve (GMR) installed my kit when he was doing my motor work. Knowing Steve, as I feel I now do, I'm sure that every aspect of the install was done as closely to perfect as possible.

I had my Baker F6R kit installed by R&R Cycle in New Hampshire. They are Baker dealers and among other activities, transmission specialists. Although this is noted as a DIY install, there is no way I'd be equipped to do this. They have to press the gear onto the shaft among other things I wouldn't be comfortable doing. I don't often use reverse in general riding. However, I use it every time I take my CVO out because I back it up my driveway and into my storage building - this has been a real asset compared to having to move other vehicles and back it out/turn it around every time. I've put about 7k miles on the bike since this was installed, all have been trouble free with the Baker reverse. I'm certain Jim at Metal Dragon will get this squared away Leo. You shouldn't be having this issue...
