Well, I think I am just going to have to go for it and try to get my engine builder behind it. His responses through multiple communications are incoherent, because I think he has had zero exposure to these “drop on” kits with steel liners that allow a no case mod installation.
1. At least from the catalog pictures of this kit, these do not appear to be the extended skirt piston type he disapproves of.
2. I do not think the rings in this kit are the “no tension” type, he disapproves of.
3. The spigots are no longer than stock that he disapproved of.
4. The pistons cannot “fall out the bottom”.
5. The spigots are not larger diameter.
All of my builder’s disapprovals indicate his is thinking of an old school 113ci conversion kit that required boring the case.
Hopefully, I can get enough of his support on the 117 bolt-on kit to check over the cylinders and rings specs carefully as he installs. It is never good to go against the recommendations of you builder, but I think in this case it is warranted. Maybe I’ll make a convert out of him.
