6 years US Army, 3 in Field Artillery (WHAT did you say?) and 3 in the Army's Navy. Watercraft Engineer.

Ft. Sill, OK / Ft. Eustis, VA / Panama / Azores / England / (West) Germany and points in between.

Law Enforcement for the past 15 years...US Customs, Arizona Dept. of Corrections, Eagle Police Detective.

US Air Force - 20 Years, Carswell AFB Tx 5 yrs, Hellenikon AB, Athens Greece 2 yrs - Souda Bay Naval Air Station 1 yr, Dyess AFB Tx 3 yrs, Offutt AFB NE 9 yrs, and many temporary duty assignments all over the U.S., Europe and Saudi Arabia.  Crew Chief for most of my career and enjoyed almost every minute of it.  Retired in 2003 and still miss the camraderie.

The finest Navy in the world!  Just over 26 years.  Submarines.  San Diego, CA; Groton/New London, CT; Charleston, SC; Kings Bay, GA; Washington, DC (3 times - where I retired).  Still work for the Navy as a Government employee - didn't have enough sense to break the umbilical cord   .

I don't like to bust in here, but having never served, I just want to make sure you all know how appreciative I am that there are men and women like you all, putting themselves out there everyday to defend my freedom and this great country of ours! I just had to say that and now I'll go back to enjoying all your posts about this. You are all so proud about your participation in the Service. I just want to let you know how proud I am to be associated with each of you! From the bottom of my heart, Thank You! Hoist! 8-)

23.5 years in USAF........Viet Vet and attended the Gulf War I "event".  I never intended to stay longer than 4 years...Go figure  :zstupidCoast Guard Auxiliary member since 1996. Civil service now (DHS agency) after many years in the electronics marketing arena.  God bless, and protect, the fine men and women currently serving our great country!

From the bottom of MY heart, I thank you for saying that. I served in a period of relative peace, for that I am thankful. I want to express my appreciation for the men and women that did not get to serve in a time of peace. Many of these brave souls have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. These brave men and women are in my thoughts and prayers constantly. As a father of two boys (13 and 16) that have their hearts set on serving in the armed forces, I now am getting a small taste of fear and concern [smiley=sweatdrop.gif]that so many parents have felt throughout the history of this great nation.

I apologize for the emotional response, but it is an emotional subject.

Small world!!  I didn't know you had retired from the Navy.  I knew there was something "salty" about you when we met.  Now I know why.  Ride free Shipmate!!!

Was declared 4f during the Nam era due to my hearing loss Tried to enlist in the Navy and made it as far as the last thing they give you for the physical - - a hearing test. Went to work in the Merchant Marine as a deck hand on an oil tanker that delivered fuel to military bases on the east coast of the US. Ended up some years later working for a company that builds US Navy warships. Now my office is onbase NAVSTA San Diego. I arrive at work at about 0530 ever morning. If there is not a lot of traffic, I always take the time to say " thank you for your service" in response to their " welcome to Navy Station San Diego" In my job, I communicate with the dept heads of the ship's I'm responsible for (10 DDG-51 Class Destroyers and 6 FFG-7 Class Frigates) I always thank whomever I'm dealing with for their service to their country. In short, every working day of my life I take a moment to thank those who do what I was not allowed to - - - serve my country. It's a small price to pay for their sacrifice and one I gladly make. I may not always agree with this country's leaders, but there is never a moment when I don't support and respect it's guardians.
