110 Pro StageII
« on: February 01, 2007, 11:31:13 PM »

Hey Guys...
What the heck? I get home from work where we have been busting our humps trying to figure out if the 110 Pro Stage II is a good move, race to my favorite source of CVO information, only to find NOTHING!!

First some background. Dealer Principle gets back from Orlando and he says, "well, looks like we got a high performance engine kit for the 110's." 10.5 compression with HD 260 cams is what the kit uses.

Consensus around here is the compression is a bit high for a Touring rig and the 260 has to rev too high to be very useful on anything but a Dyna or Softail.

My personal  thought is the 10.5 could be lived with as long as the owner is in tune with his bike. Fully loaded, hot temps, low RPM and mix in some poor fuel equals detonation. The 260 bumpstick is biased too highly in the RPM range for a big bike.

Any thoughts??

Brad

PS. I have 3 customers who call me every week asking me what I am going to do to the 110's. The only kicker is I am trying to stick to Harley parts because that's what it says on the building where my paychecks come from....

Hey Brad, any update on these Stage II  Kits? Have you tried these pistons yet? I'm thinking it might make sense to do some head tweaks and use the cometics instead. Compromise a little compression for reliability. Clearance the rocker boxes and replace the cams. The '07 cam plates are supposed to be better. How do they look? And how are these 110" oil pumps looking when you do cams? I might as well start planning for next winter's work. Still have the rest of the year to see what comes out. Please keep us informed as you use any of this, or any new developments. Thanks Brad. Hoist! 8)

Hoist,
We have 3 110 Stage II kits that will be going into new 96" bikes next month. Two are softails and one is a FLHTCU.
These bikes are getting the "full meal deal," Stage II kits, big throttle bodies and SE 260 cams.

I like using thinner head gaskets to gain compression, we do all the time on 95" engines. This 110 is a brand new animal so we are going to stick to Mother Harley's recipe until we know better......

For all of the reasons you listed I left the compression alone and went with the 251 SE cams. I have put about 1500 miles on it and Nothing to speak of. I run California 91 Octane which is like 89 for the rest of the US, no detonation! 1200 RPM roll on OK no problem! I don't ride like that just wanted to see if it would knock.

Great response in every situation. We installed SE springs to compensate for the higher lift, minor Clarence of the rocker boxes. At 5500/5900 it is stilling pulling hard. You can shift at 3800/4200 and it still pulls hard. I ride very hard, like I stole it, I have tried every shift point in every gear, I have rolled on in 6 at 70 mph and kicked down to third. It has a very forgiving power band. I can say I am happy with it. It is on the Dyno today and I will have #s tomorrow.

At 115 my front end starts feeling loose so I haven't really pushed it. Working on that now.

It is a great combo. We talked about the 50mm TB but thought we would get through the Dyno and see what was going on first.

Please let me know what kind of #s your kits through up, I am interested to see what the extra lift and duration of the 260 and the higher compression adds.

Thanks 3z's. Great report. Please let us know how your testing goes and if you're going with the 50mm. I'm still not leaning toward HD cams as I want to go gear drive. Keeping an eye on things to see if someone comes out with that perfect geard drive cam, made specific to 110" motors. I ride similar which is why I installed the True-Track. installing the Traxxion Cartridges in the forks, performance rear shocks. The wheels and tires are fine on the SERK, but it looks like calipers might wind up on the list now too. Good having you on the site and you have contributed a lot in such a short time.

That is kind of you Thank you :2vrolijk_21: I found the forum looking for info.. I also am not big into lurking, well if she is cute maybe :huepfenjump3: It is give and take, you and the rest have given me so much I can never say thanks enough times.

Right now with the new ride there is so much to do, HD makes a great gas cap! the rest we will strive to turn it into a motorcycle worthy of the people who own, ride and wrench on them. I will do my best to share with the group... I did step on some toes in the dyno forum calling a dyno tech a moron, I assumed he did the whole run with the clutch slipping, my

I am kind of warranty conscious and work within my CA dealers comfort zone. For that reason alone I choose HD parts and play inside the MOCO box. The MOCO warranteed a 95" on my 04 that was built (all MOCO) that was 4 months out of warranty! I owe them a little gratitude :2vrolijk_21: They built a 95" at the factory, put my serial number on it, gave it a 12 month warranty and installed it.. 4 months out of warranty and it had 20K miles on it, Get that from Honda!

Anyway everyone here is great and Thanks again for all the help ;)

We have lots of 103's out here running the SE 251. They all make great power, very good mileage and have real nice driveability.
Because the 110's are different and these are customers' bikes, I have decided to stick to HD's kit for now.

I was going to experiment with the high comp. pistons and 251/257 in my bike but time did not allow.

I am glad to hear your bike likes the 251 SJPZZZ. HD tells us the stock valve train will handle the lift on the SE 260 (.690 I think), so with the SE springs, you should have no worries.

Igofar,

I was looking at this combination and was thinking if okay probably when I do this it would be the 257 cam over the 260.

SJPZZZ do you have any part numbers on the new pistons in your bike or a break down of the parts they used thus far?

110 Stage 1,  SE 251 Cams, SE Valve Springs , Adjustable Push Rods, SERT,  Dual Reinharts

NOTE FOR THE WRENCHES: Up garade the push rods the first set tried on this motor bent, bent bad! The wrench has them on the magnet in his tool box.

I rode with JC this weekend and he said my profile name SJPZZZ was not to easy to say or remember. So I have switched to my given and earned road name IronButt.

Hoist if you up the compression just a bit I would run a set of Red Shift TC657's in the bike. They work very good in the 103' and 113's. A little head work and a 50mm throttle body and you are good to go!

Thanks DC. I'm now thinking of staying with slightly lower compression, because of the heat, by just using Cometics. Bring compreesion to about 9.8:1. I was trying to avoid such a tall lift cam and was looking for something with longer duration instead. I always found that to be more Reliable in the long haul. I've used Sifton cams in the Evo's. The motors pull like a mother and the 143 cam is only a .500 lift. But it had the sweetest duration. One of the cams we used only had a .450 lift, whiler stock was .500. But that 140 cam was great too. I was planning the 50mm TB, with some porting and polishing of the heads, but leave valve sizes alone. I might not get every last drop out of the motor, but it should be real strong, and still run like a stocker. Just gonna keep my options open and see what cams come out this year. I have the rest of the year to find the "TC 110 cam of my dreams"! ;) Hoist! 8)
