Bluetooth won't link up
« on: March 06, 2016, 11:19:32 AM »

I just got my HK radio installed today with the Iron Cross Bluetooth mod and I cant seem to get my I phone 6 to link up with it :nixweiss: It recognizes it and asks for a pin number, every time  I enter a 4 digit pin it tells me pairing unsuccessful. I tried different pin numbers and also my wife's phone with the same end result. Any ideas?

Thanks, Dean

If I'm correct, once you choose the device to be paired (your I phone, in this case) the radio should seek out the device and begin pairing.  Once it starts the process, it should GIVE you a PIN to enter on your phone, at least that's the way it worked on my bike - and how it's described in the manual.  Sometimes that screen with the PIN is easy to miss.

Hope this helps.

I made it as far as entering my 4-digit PIN number then after I created the pin I pressed the link button. I then get the screen below on my phone. I didn't get any instructions or a manual with it but it seems pretty straight forward. I've linked to other Bluetooth devices before without any problems. Maybe i just got a bad one?

That I-wave message is interesting.  It's a Bluetooth receiver you can use on a dock.  Don't know what it has to do with the HK radio.  My thought at this point is to call Iron Cross when they open tomorrow and see if the have suggestions.  They may have seen it before.

Good luck and let me know what you find out.

My guess is the I-wave is the type of Bluetooth that Tony installed in my HK radio. I'll give Tony a call in the morning. I'm sure he'll get me straightened out. I just hope I don't have to rip it out of the bike and mail it back again. Knowing my luck that'll be the case. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for trying to help.

Da nada.  Just hope you tested all this before you put the fairing back on.

Haha...I at least have that going for me. I left it off to check the NIM I had to splice into my radio harness. It turns out that all works great and I have problems with the radio which I wasn't expecting. I must have got a bad Bluetooth?

I must have got a bad Bluetooth?

I woke up about 0300 wondering whether that I-Wave is actually the Bluetooth interface with the radio.  It would make sense.  It's used to make a Bluetooth connection with docks so you can play music from an I-Phone over the dock's speakers.  If so, we may be missing a step in the pairing procedure.   :help:

You hit it on the head, I was missing a step. I called Tony this morning and told him about my little dilemma. His next question to me wAs what PIN number are you entering? It was at this time I started feeling stupid. I told him I was just entering a generic number that I can remember. He then told me i needed to enter 0000. Went home after work and tried it and it works like a champ. I guess they need to include instructions for morons like myself.

  Don't be too hard on yourself.  Usually the radio you're trying to pair with will give you the PIN you need to use.  Apparently that wasn't the case with your setup.  The important thing is that it's working now and you can get that fairing back on.  Enjoy your new system and ride safe!

That's what I said to Tony from Iron Cross and he told me almost all Bluetooth devices use the 0000 PIN number to pair them initially. The other Bluetooth devices I've used never even needed a PIN number to pair them so I had no clue. I still think they should let you know that when they mail your radio back to you. Other than that small stumbling block, I'm very pleased with dealing with Iron Cross and highly recommend them. Thanks for your help and concept ATG.
