Wife's ride
« on: April 13, 2016, 09:02:18 PM »

Wondering how many of us male members are lucky enough to have a wife who rides her own bike. After many years as a passenger my wife decided she wanted to ride her own, she took a weekend riding course at a local college, passed with a perfect score and hasn't looked back since. Started out on a sporty for a year or so and is now on her second Street Glide and can ride with the best of any group. We do a two week trip every summer and she has ridin across the country a few times now and makes me proud that she can ride on her own and very well. Here is a pic of her current ride, a 2014 Street Glide special.

My wife is on her 3rd Harley.  Yes, it's nice to see other peoples reaction when I pull up and stop and then she parks beside me. She is currently riding a 2015 Freewheeler.

The "Boss" started riding at 52, and will ride anywhere or anytime, in any weather, all I have to say is "let's go".  Her first bike was a 2006 Honda Shadow Aero, the on to a Heritage Softail, and currently on her third Harley, a 2012 Softail Convertabile.  Ridden to Sturgis, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, etc.

Dan, if you go to a CVO GTG (Get Together....see "Events" on this forum) you'll see a number of wives and SOs (significant others) that ride their own bikes.  Nor Cal members have a number of them riding their own and it's been that way for years.  :2vrolijk_21:

My Wife started out on the street ten years ago on a Honda CM400T after having ridden dirt bikes on the farm as a kid.  Then she upgraded to this 2006 XL1200C in Dragonfly Green and Black.  It changes color in the sun/shade/different lighting. Always got a lot of compliments on that bike. I lowered it, changed the seat and bars....and she says (now that she has her FLD) felt top-heavy.

Then....last summer she was was wanting ABS.....FI....and hard bags. The Switchback did those three things and was not a huge increase in weight....especially when the weight is nice and low. It's been lowered, has a close/low seat, pipes, heated grips, and much shiny stuff installed since the test ride photo below. Now.....need a SHORT windshield with a 'kick' so she can see over it AND still get some decent protection.
It's coming up on a year since she traded the Sporty off....and it's still at Barnes HD in Victoria(Langford).  http://www.barneshdvictoria.com/default.asp?page=xPreOwnedInventoryDetail&id=1447044&p=1&s=Year&d=D&t=preowned&year=2006&fr=xPreOwnedInventory
It's a sunny Sunday and going up to 21*c here on The Island......so.....we're goin' for a ride!!!

My wife on her 2007 FLTSN Softail Deluxe. She too took the class and passed with flying colors 5 years ago and then said she wanted her own bike.  She was a BSR for 7 years and now enjoys riding her own!  (that's me on the O/B Roadglide)

Yep....my Wife also took the course and passed at the top of the class! I don't think anyone should be on the street without some formal training. Which reminds me....I should find an advanced rider course to take....or maybe we need  a 'back to basics' course as well?!

Here is the lovely Miss Susans ride. It is a 2003 Low Rider, modified to be low enough for her 5 foot nothing frame,  with a $h1tload of chrome. She never would let me add any go fast goodies except for a Mikuni carb.

Sitting here in hotel room and as I type this, my wife is taking her MSF class. She had a bad experience a long long time ago on a motorcycle so she really had no interest at all in riding. Could barely get her to ride with me ever. Then she saw a used CanAm Spyder in our local shop and the  next thing I know, she's taking the class. SO, don't know if I'll ever get her on two wheels, but I'm really glad to have a new riding partner. She continues to surprise me more and more every year - even after 35 years! Looking forward to this summer!
