Folks - I have tried to run thru the many pages of posts on the 117 kits - but need some CALIFORNIA specific information...

- Is only the drop in kit available for CA?  IE - no Race Kit / No Tuning?
- Can you recommend a dealer in Northern California / SF Bay Area to install this kit?

Jim at Metal Dragon ,  as for a SE street legal kit I do not think there is one at least not yet ..  But just have Jim do the build and tune the bike problem solved

The kit will be street legal and warrantable, even in California, as long as you don't vary from the parts in the kit and only use the emission legal ECM calibration download that comes with the kit.  As soon as you change to different parts, like cams for instance, or use a calibration other than the approved legal one, the bike is no longer street legal and the warranty is also void.  So it's just like the stock engine; if you modify it or have it tuned it won't comply with EPA certifications and will therefore be illegal for highway use, and the warranty can be voided at Harley's discretion (or the ESP at the ESP companies discretion).  The following is from H-D in the description of the kit:

"These Screamin' Eagle® products are 50-state street-legal for sale and use on all vehicles, including those that are pollution controlled. Complies with the requirements of 40 CFR Part 86, subparts E and F."

the 117 kit is legal , I did not see that kit , you would also need the CA ex system with a cat as well

So, what happens if I live in Cali and do a non EPA compliant build?  Is there a annual check or anything?  I moved out of that state in 2000.  I actually had a 1978 hard tail back then.

Unlike the weenies at the Federal EPA, CARB has been known to go after the folks selling illegal emissions system defeating devices and services in California.  Power Commander was hit with a large fine many years ago, as were some dealers.  While there has been a lot of talk in recent years about instituting an annual emissions test on in-use motorcycles, I'm pretty sure there is no such requirement now (yet).  But in a state with California's politics, you never know.  That's why I've recommended in the past that folks from Cali keep their stock catalytic exhaust systems stored away somewhere, so when it happens they won't have to go and buy those overpriced parts again from the MoCo.
