Windscreens
« on: April 18, 2016, 04:33:19 PM »

Looking for options to replace my 2016 FLTRUSE stock bug crusher.
I'm 6'2" with 31" inseam so tall upper body.
Stock screen I can barely hear the radio with it cranked at 60mph. Wind noise also notably reduced hearing after a long ride (not good long term).

so my buddy has a Klock Werks sport on his '12 CVO RG and swears by it but, he's 6' and shorter in the torso plus has a Corbin seat that is lower than my Ultra's stock seat by at least an inch or so.
From googling around it seems there's as many complaints with KW as there are good reviews, the best thing they have going seems to be looks.

Other options I've come across:
Klock Werks 15" Pro touring Flare $239
Windvest 14" 68-1410 $189.95
Cee Baileys 15" or 17" Touring $179
LRC (Long Ride Shields) Stingray 15-16"  $79.00
Clearview Large or XL Scalloped $169

Anybody out there been through one or more of these that can suggest which is likely the best bet for reducing wind noise?

Recommend you call John at Freedom Shields in Colorado.  Very good product and helpful guy.  I have the 14" Medium tint.  You want a 15 or 16".

Also, see here:  Ear plugs.

I'm 6'2".  They stock windshield cause a lot of head buffeting and wind noise.  I ordered the Freedom Shield the same height as the stock shield.  No more buffeting

I have 34" inseam and went the opposite route and put a 5" shield on. Its a bit windier if you sit tall but when I lounge back its perfect for me.

I will add my suggestion to speak with John at Freedom shield.  If I was a solo rider, I would still have my Freedom on the bike.  I enjoy riding with my wife so I had to make a change.

So, if you ride with a passenger a good portion of the time, the stock as well as the Freedom allows for additional side wind to the BSR.  I recently replaced my Freedom with a Clearview shield, medium height, light tint GT version.  I've had it on Beauregard long enough that I feel confident in recommending that option for you.  It increases the wind pocket in the saddle and significantly reduces the side wind effect to the passenger.
Communications:  John with Freedom is top notch.  My communication experience with Clearview was not top notch.  Per their website, it takes 10-15 days from order to ship/delivery.  It actually took 23 days for mine and it was more difficult achieving a response from them.  Very good product, however.  The edges are not polished which I found very nice on the Freedom shield.

Good luck with whatever path you choose.

What's you inseam? My buddy is 6'2" but has 34" inseam, my head is 3" higher than his seated.

Really would like to keep it to a shorter shield (look better imo) but function is more important.

Also, see here:  Ear plugs.

I do have a set of high end musicians -25db ear plugs, custom molded to my ears. I should try them as I never really use them with my band.

I will call John.

Thanks
Steve

What size is the stock shield btw?
I will try one the same.

Did it help a lot with wind noise and being able to hear the radio?

I'm not getting a lot of head bobble but wind noise on the ears is a problem.

Another nod for Freedom Shields!  :2vrolijk_21:

They have instructions for measuring for the right height for you on the website. I followed them for my Ultra and Road King and got the perfect size shield for both on the first shot.

Also, you can install it on your bike without removing the protective film and test ride it to make sure it's right. If it's not you can send it back and get another.
