I'm hoping someone on here can help me figure out what happened to the scorched chrome rims that were so heavily promoted on the cvo pro street breakout. when they did the reveal on the bikes in aspen they had these new wheels called scorched chrome. this was one of the two new finishes that were so highly spoken of from some of the upper management in the motor company. I put a deposit on one on feb. 18th I continued to watch the Harley website and up until mid march they were still advertising the scorched chrome. my bike arrived at the dealership on 4/18 when I went to look at it I was surprised to see gloss black rims. I asked the dealer why it didn't have scorched chrome rims and they said they are all coming with black rims. the scorched chrome appeared to be a term no one has heard of. so I have been on a mission to find out why the public was lead on about the rims. if anyone here has any information that would help it would be greatly appreciated. I have made several calls to customer service and I get the same reply every time. "you will have to check with your dealer"  I have purchased 3 cvo's in the past 2 years and I think I deserve some kind of explanation. thank you

The finish you speak of is specifically mentioned in the article cited below:

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/2016/01/article/2016-harley-cvo-pro-street-breakout-first-look/

The article does describe it as a wheel finish.  It's still just an article though.  Perhaps Harley changed it's mind (they can do that) and none will ever come that way or perhaps production of that wheel with that finish is delayed and they'll come that way later (they could do that to, it sucks, but they could).  Or perhaps yours is just a one-off production error (we've seen that happen here [especially with mis-matched paint] several times) and rather than really do anything your dealer fed you BS.  No idea what's actually going but all are possibilities.

Also, happy Earth Day weekend.

Also, found a few other articles citing the wheel you mentioned.  Though it's all just industry press.  Google is your friend.  :drink:

Dammit, this one made me curious.  Have a couple of old clunker chrome wheels with various surface "issues" that I'd bet could be masked by some careful and cautious work with a propane torch.  Or maybe just drag out the oxy/acetylene bottles.  I bet we could do "scorched chrome" at home.....  ???

Hmmm, wonder how big the market is!?!?

Almost every advertising brochure/catalog I have read has a fine print section that states options and features can change at any time and may not be accurate in the brochure. I think that gives Harley a legal way out if suppliers can't produce items or there is a defect that they later change to another finish or part entirely, you can't hold them to the original design.

Thanks for the info. The best I have heard from anyone at harley is that they used those rims for a concept bike but the rims never made it to market. What puzzles me is why would they reveal the bike with them and publish everything with them. If you can make some wheels look like this I would buy a set.

All kidding aside it has happened before, and will happen again (and by no means just with Harley) that a designer has a really good looking idea that can make a first cut.  Then for reasons of cost, production difficulty, materials availability or someone higher up the food chain doesn't like it the first "good" idea gets nixed.  If that happens there's really not a damn thing you can do about.  It's a nice weekend; ride on.

What you said about "concept bike" tells a lot. As with concept cars at an auto show they are a design exercise where money may be no object and they display the vehicle in it's best way in their eyes. When the reality sets in about design costs and production time for parts etc. Then the production vehicle is brought out with the idea that the production vehicle is inspired by the concept one but at a cost and timetable that the average customer could live with and the company can make their profit.

I agree with you VaEagle. the idea of concept only means that's what they want to do but sometimes production and cost gets in the way. the car industry will have many concept cars at shows but when it comes time for advertising they usually have all there info in place. I just feel that it was misleading on Harley's part to promote and continue to advertise something that isn't there. yes they do have all the brochures printed with the disclaimers to protect themselves legally. I just find it interesting that a lot of the dealers websites still list the scorched chrome rims in the spec page. anyway I still purchased the bike and its a lot of fun to ride. I'm sure it wouldn't ride any different with the scorched rims. I was just hoping to find out why they dumped them and possibly find out who was going to produce them. maybe I could get a set down the road.

When the '14s were introduced, the HD website said the Boom radio would pair with your "BlueTooth headset". It said it for only a few days, and *poof*

HI,
Anyone know what happened to the Smoked Chrome wheels that were at one time supposed to come on the 2016 Pro Street Breakout ?  They looked good in the pics I saw.
