Compensator and clutch numbers 2009 FLTRSE3
« on: April 29, 2016, 01:20:25 AM »

Okay, spent the $409.95 on a new compensator, part number 40100061.  This is the correct version for my 2009 SERG, correct?   Also, bought a new clutch friction disc kit, part number 37932-98, which is the stock replacement for a 2009 SERG.  It has a package of 8 friction discs, and another package with 1 friction disc that is different.  Why is 1 different?  And should I have gotten the steel discs also, or do you just reuse all 8 of those? Comments?  Am I on the right track?  Also spent $37 on the glue kit.

The part numbers you listed are correct.  The friction plate kit is supposed to include 8 regular disks plus 1 narrow disk.  The narrow disk is installed first, next to the damper seat and spring.  Once you install the damper seat, spring, and narrow disk the reason for the narrow disk becomes more obvious.

As for the steel disks, inspect each one for any signs of damage (blued, grooved/scored, etc.) and make sure they are flat and not warped.  Replace any that are more than .006" out-of-flat when measured on a surface plate.  The steels are not sold as a kit, but rather by the piece, because most are only replaced as needed.  Part number 37913-98, about $14 each.  Even if you buy all 8 replacements, you should still inspect them for flatness.  Out-of-flat plates and disks can cause several issues, from dragging to slippage (due to loss of full surface contact).
