Ignition switch install on 04 FLHT
« on: May 02, 2016, 04:02:08 PM »

I've tried the search function and still can't find a good vid or instructions on installing the key lock ignition on my FLHTC.
My 04 does not have spring. Whether it was suppose to or not I don;t know, but the service manual doesn't show one. The stinking manual only shows how to remove it. Which was easy. I know I should just following backwards but that isn't working either. Any help?

Don't know if they are exact, but with my '07 to remove you had to be in the fork lock position. After removal the front wheel could then be turned which would put the cylinder and the ignition out of alignment. The book call for a special Harley tool but a 10" slot screwdriver works fine. Turn your bars to the lock position and use the driver to put the cylinder in the lock position. Put the switch in the lock position and drop it in. The '07 has a spring.

The 2004 domestic model didn't have a spring, but the HDI (export) model did.

As 2k mentioned, you need to turn the forks to the full left lock position before you install the knob.  Assuming you didn't move the actual ignition switch/fork lock after you removed the knob, you just reverse how you removed it.  With the key inserted in the knob at the unlock position and the red arrow pointing to the ACC position, insert the knob into the ignition switch/lock, turn the key clockwise to the lock position and then rotate the knob counterclockwise to OFF.  Verify that the knob is locked in place and you can't pull it up without tripping the little hidden button.

It's been quite a while since I last did this, so hopefully I got it right.
