Tri Glide
« on: May 07, 2016, 08:42:33 PM »

I sure wished they would make a CVO Tri Glide
I had 3 CVO's before I broke my back and that 103 on a Tri is just not enough HP

I was at the local dealer yesterday and a guy was picking up his new tri glide that he had the 103 upgraded to the 120.
Than add all the extra item on that you want and make it your custom vehicle assemble.

Pierce, if the 103" isn't enough for you (after your mods) then the 110" isn't going to make you happy, either.  Might want to look at the S&S 124" and sell your stock motor to help offset the cost.  :nixweiss:

By the way, there are a couple of people on this forum that have converted their CVOs to trikes with various trike kits.

I thought this was cool, and probably about as expensive as some trike conversions.. https://www.tiltingmotorworks.com/

I have considered that, but by the time your done your into it for 10K
If MoCo was smart they would put the 120ST in a CVO TriGlide that way we have something to build off of.
My 14 TriGlide has V&H Big Rounds w/V&H header pipes, a SEST and dyno'd, to get more out of that motor I would need to go to the stage 3 then might as well stick a 120 in it. Problem with that now is it does not have water heads

If MOCO was to build a CVO trike I would lay money it would be over $50K.  Seems cheaper to buy a normal trike from them and build to suit in this case.

The rear end went out on my dad's triglide with a 103 with only a cam upgrade. Can't see it holding up to any real torque for long.

Was it determined that boosting the motor HP caused the rear end to fail? what exactly happened.

Just like any part of the drive line, a ring and pinion shop can beef that rear end up to handle anything the motor can put out.  Went through that in the mid 80s with my 1960 El Camino.  People often dump a bucket load of money in the motor or motor and tranny and not think about the rest of the drive train or the cooling system. :nixweiss:

Not sure exactly what failed. I'll find out and report back later today.

Although I trader her for the new SG back in the fall I have to say she was a dream to drive and ride.  You will spend $15 or more for the conversion but there are many things to consider.  First, I recouped around 6,000 selling parts that were no longer required from the original bike after the conversion took place by Hannigan.  The fully independent rear suspension is something to behold as far as ride and handling.  It makes HD seem like a dinosaur.  With the TTS, Fullsac Headers, and inserts she pulled like a team of horses.  I originally moved this way due to blowing a Knee out, but after very successful surgery I decided to go back to 2 wheels for a while again plus I wanted to upgrade to the Rushmore features.  All said and done if HD does not move towards independent rear suspension and other comforts on their Tri Glides I would do the conversion again in a second.

Fred got me looking at the Hannigan site

Pierce, they have a few turn-key conversions for sale with one being a 2008 CVO:

And this beauty....dang that Indian Chieftain makes a beautiful trike.

Hannigan would be my first choice in trike kits.  The independent suspension is a joy to ride.  Friend had his wing converted and I had the pleasure of riding it.  Nice.

One more:  Looks like Hannigan is branching into the "two up front" for the GW's.  Interesting look and good forward thinking (pardon the pun) on their part.

A member of this forum Dean Nelson has built a couple of CVO trikes with the DFT Trike kit.  Photos are posted on this forum and maybe he'll see this and post more pics.  Here's one.....   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=7899.msg116254#msg116254

Friend of mine here in Beckley, had California Trikes convert his '09 CVO Ultra to a Trike.  Looks pretty good!  Longer than a 3 wk. payday!  Paint match was perfect!  One of the modifications I liked too, was either 2", or 4" Overstock Tubes, I can't remember which, but it looked really good!  8) Later--HUBBARD
