I understand your frustration, Joe.  Working for the phone company (even though it's da G'vment side)....well let's just say it's interesting work.  If you think the commercial side is frustrating, try appeasing the US G'vment..... :'(

One thing on Uverse that everyone may find interesting.  OBB mentioned it but yes, the Death Star (AT&T, look at the logo folks...) has purchased Direct TV.  Programing contracts are costing AT&T an arm and a leg with Uverse.  Cable and network channels want quite a bit for their product and usually want to sell in bundles with channels you never watch or have ever heard of.  Solution?  Purchase a satellite company and "push" all your TV business to them and away from Uverse.  It solves the programming cost issues and you have a very nice AT&T service tech to address the customer needs.

I can personally vouch for that.  I've been out on installs where the customer is is getting Direct TV when they had Uverse a few years ago and switched due to the normal price jumps. They are telling customers that Uverse is no longer available in their area. Sometimes the customer is so upset once they find out that it is, we have to make spend about 2 hours on the phone to get them their Uverse back. Also, AT&Greed is now upping the prices on the Uverse for customers that insist on it rather than DTV. With so many people switching to live streaming, the video content is in less demand than the bandwith for internet speeds.

That some new really, really high speed internet service being rolled out is not just for commercial customers. It's called Gigapower and will have download speed up to 1gig as opposed the max attainable 75meg for some customers right now. I've been through the training on it and we're just waiting for construction to get it in place in certain areas up here. Austin,tx already has it in some areas along with select markets in other states. Fiber straight to your house. You'll be able to download a full lenth HD movie in just a few seconds. Faster than a GMR built 117  :huepfenjump3: No offense Steve  ;)

That there's funny! :huepfenlol2:

Yeah, I used to work for them

Joe, totally feel the same way.  We're still on Comcrap and dread the day they change our rate and we'll have to change.  Unfortunately we have our Comcast email scattered all over so will have great difficulty leaving their internet.  Our rates got pretty high a couple years back and after several discussions with them our rate went down about 25% for basically the same service. Its actually been pretty stable service since then.  We did have a issue with them about a year ago trying to update our 10 year old DVR equipment that took numerous calls to get it right.  I see a lot of drilling and underground cable installation going on in our area, don't know if its ATT, Google or someone else.  I can only hope by the time we have issues with Comcast someone will have reliable, cost effective, high speed in this area.  We avoid calling them to change anything because they always screw it up taking many calls to get it fixed.

'Have had all the same issues with Cox over the years, they have a monopoly here in my area, the only alternative is satellite, Dish or Direct... I would have to fight some covenants (no dishes)in my neighborhood...

Last year or so, ATT & Verizon purchased Dish and Direct (or vice versa?) My theory is that the 800lb gorillas purchased mainly for the programming agreements, and not so much the satellites, to sell TV over the Cell Towers, (current advances in technology, capacity, are making this much more viable very soon)

I was fairly high up the food chain in the Wireless Infrastructure Industry, and last Sept I bounced the theory off of a close friend that is now at the public company VP level, ..  He verified that it's coming soon, with ATT to be the first... But then again (he &) I have seen the big guys change their minds before...

'Am so waiting, wanting to kick Cox to the curb...

Get a Gmail or Yahoo and start migrating over to it. I did that a few years back and tell all my customers not to use a proprietary email just for that purpose. You change providers and your email is gone.
