Anyone familiar with this site or how accurate they are on pricing?    Lots of games are played with pricing / discount / holdbacks and packs from the dealers just curious if anyone has put this sites numbers to the test?

As an Example:

If you look up a 2016 FLHTKSE they show an MSRP of $39,999 and a dealer invoice of $31,999  -  that tracks exactly with the 20% dealer markup I've mentioned before.  I have no idea how accurate they are on other brands.

Point of comparison, according to that site the dealer markup for a Honda Gold Wing is a tad over 10%, and the markup for Indian is also 10%.  So when people say Harley's are overpriced, draw your own conclusions.

A fraternity brother of mine was the CFO of a large Harly dealer in the
Phoenix area. I asked him what their markup was and he told me 20%.

The pricing sounds like it is accurate.

Sounds like a lot.  But it really is not. It cost approx 17% just to keep the doors open. .  I know they like to count on service and parts to keep the profits up. . But at 20%  that to me seems fair. . .  However. I got a nice discount recently when I bought a new bike.  I wasn't about to say no.... I didn't want it...  But when you have a business to run....  A company has to be profitable or there won't be a company. .  Just my. 02 Harrrr...... . . . . Stuart

True that they have to be profitable to stay in business Stu, but don't forget that the other motorcycle dealers are making enough money to stay in business and make the owner wealthy on half as much markup on bikes.  That CVO Limited represents an $8000 gross profit at MSRP, before any additional markup and before all the add-ons like ESP, accessories, etc.  There are  a lot of car dealers out there that would kill for those kinds of profits.  And don't forget the highly profitable Motor Clothes department.

I don't begrudge anyone a fair profit if they handle the sale fairly and honestly, and the product they sell is of a quality level that justifies the price.  And of course it would help if that same dealer would then stand behind the product, provide excellent and timely service, and not try to rape me every time I walked in the store.  I'm sure there are some Harley dealers that meet those requirements, but in my experience they tend to be in the minority.  The MoCo forced out the good guys back in the 90's and replaced many of them with used car shuck and jive artists, to move more iron.

I think that was a low blow on the poor used car sales people.   :pineapple:

I'm sure there has got to be some good dealers out there, I don't know of any personally. We need a sticky list of good dealers and bad dealers.  :orange:

Jerry. . .  You put it very well there.  I have my own wholesale pipe and plumbing supply company. . I'm always trying to raise profits and that's a very tough thing to do. To me 20% does not sound like a whole lot.  True.  It's a big ticket....  But even cvos sit for a while. .  And having a good dealer experience couldn't hurt as well.. Thanks for the input. . Don't they receive a hold back and advertising allowance for each new bike like car dealers get?  At the end of the year they get their hold back money.

I'm not fully familiar with Harley's current practices, but in the past they were set up just like the car industry with a holdback plus other incentive payments for meeting sales objectives, etc..  So unless the MoCo changed things, yes indeed the invoice price does not reflect the real bottom line dealer cost.
