My Poor Northern Friends
« on: June 15, 2016, 09:20:27 PM »

I now have a better idea of how you feel about Gov charges. In Ontario for a few days and the hotel where we are staying gives us a $30 gift card to be used off of 2 adult meals. So its raining tonite and the Outback is just a few steps away. Have a blooming onion, and 2 ribeyes.....yummy. Get my bill and it's $91.95, no prob as I throw my gift card on them. Very good sir, that will be $82.34...huh??
Of course I question and the waitress explains.......there's 7.44 NFDF and 12.95 H.S.T. Bam I only got 9.50 left.
Welcome to Canada, Yankee(and I'm from NC)

Doesn't matter to me, I'm still planning on emigrating to Canada after the first of the year.  You'll just have to read between the lines as to my reasons to "elect" to move to Canada.

It may be the Vietnam era all over again, with many Americans once again crossing the border.  Fortunately I've found all the Canadians I've known over the years to be very friendly and welcoming.

USA!!  USA!!  USA!!   I love this Country!  Even with everything going on that I disagree with, and things going on that really pi$$ me off, it's still the greatest Country in the World, to me!  I'm proud to be an American!  And I ain't got a problem with people that live elsewhere.  That ain't political, that's a natural fact.  If anyone thinks that's political, then they can kiss my lily-white political a$$!  God, guns, and the USA!  There endeth the lesson.  Later--HUBBARD

HST=Harmonized Sales Tax.........$19.31 per nite
NFDF=Tourism Improvement Fee.........$$14.85 per nite

But the Hub is dead on, ain't no place like the USA but Canada is very close!! Could live here without difficulty but would have to learn French. And BTW, no matter what happens in November we all gonna lose. Wish I had grc's money :orange:

I sure do enjoy riding the Atlantic Maritimes and have always had great experiences with the people in Canada. Every now and then you may run into someone with separatists views that will pretty much ignore you if you don't speak French, but that's rare and tourism is generally welcomed. There's a lot of French speakers in Maine and New England in the older mill towns still. Not far or difficult to get in-country from my location although now you need a passport when crossing the border. It can be expensive with provincial and national taxes as Jimmy points out, but if you wait for a more favorable exchange rate it helps. On the other hand - there's no place like home... Thanks for supporting the Tourism Improvement Fee Jimmy <g>...

In these latter days, there isn't a country on this earth that doesn't have some kind of issues/problem.  Leaving one country for personal reasons just opens you up to other, possibly worse problems in another country....the old grass/greener on the other side scenario.  I heard it described here once that the grass may be greener on the other side but you have to mow it more often... ;D

I'll just keep myself planted right here, thank you very much....as old Hub states so well, "there endeth the lesson.  Later"

Jimmy, the last time we went to Canada, we got some of the taxes (VAT?) back when we came back to the USA.  Do they still do that?

That made me laugh and almost cry Hub.  Had to think of my Granddad.  Damn I miss him too.  His version of that same thing was (pretty much anytime I whined about something) "if you think that yard looks better then boy it's time to water more."

Here's to our dads and granddads!  :2vrolijk_21:

My Grandpa used to say "if the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, it might be because it's over the septic tank".
