I installed Ohlins #2 ADJ Emersed last week, 500 miles on them and still messing around with different settings to get them dialed in. I strictly ride 2 up run 6'3" 320lbs and the wife is 5"2" 125lbs and didn't want the ride height changed.
What I can say is I haven't bottomed out since I put them on and I can feel more bumps now in the handle bar compared to the ass end.
Whether there worth the $800 yet to be decided.

The older bikes (pre 2009) rode much smoother, in part because the frame was less rigid.  The rear travel has remained a meager 3" for at least a decade.  So even with the best of suspensions (I have Ohlins HD159's in the back and Ohlins cartridges in front), you have very little travel to work with, at the rear.

Harley got rid of a lot of the high speed wobble with the 09 and up frames but made no changes to the rear suspension travel. :zstupid:

When I put the Ohlins in back, it really revealed the weak front (41mm) forks.  With Ohlins in back, my bike allows me to at least maximize the limited suspension travel for the smoothest ride.   From BMW to Indian, they all have at least 50% more travel than Harley.  I test rode an Indian Roadmaster and could not believe how much smoother it rode than my CVO (though I think their front suspension could use a little work).

There are a lot of good shocks out there, I just happen to choose Ohlins (you can order with springs of different compression rates) and I'm very satisfied with my choice.  Hopefully others will chime in with their selections.
The new frame did NOT cure the wobble as there are plenty reporting wobbles with the new frame. I believe it is as it always has been. Some do and some don't.

Rooster,

I have to question how much of the wobble that is being seen/noticed/reported is the tail wagging the dog from the crappy OE tires that cup etc.

I did not say it cured the wobble, I said it got rid of a lot of the high speed wobble.  I think few would argue that the newer frame is more rigid, & therefore not as subceptible to the high speed wobble.

While many went with Olhins I chose to go with Progressive. I have used Progressive shocks for a while now. I am running 944's on both my 14 SE Limited and my 04 SEEG. They are adjustable and I have them set very loose.

Sorry King, I know you did not state "cure" I did. I agree the new frame is a great improvement however I have read many different reports here and elsewhere that have had the wobble and still maintain some do and some don't new frame or old. And Unbalanced makes a valid point could be the cupping of the newer tires could be some of the source.

replaced stock shocks with progressive 412 standard duty.got the 13 1/2 inch model.wanted more travel, better ride.did the trick and only $242 free shipping ebay.notice the spring size difference.even though new shocks are 1 1/2 inches taller did not make any noticeable difference in ride hight, just the ride.

I have been following this thread and could someone explain the differences in ride quality between the Progressive 13 1/2" 412 and the 13" Progressive 444 rear shock. The cost is about double and I am wondering what the benefits are between the 444 and the 412.

I have the stock 12" HD air shocks on my 2009 SG and the ride is terrible and I would like to change to something better without spending $1000.00 for other alternatives.

Thanks for any help.

if you want better ride go with the ones I bought, standard, not heavy duty.what happens if you spend $550 to $1000 and you don't like them?dont believe you can return them so your not happy and out a lot of money.go with 412s and you don't like them only out $242.the inch and a half travel you get makes a big difference and after they settle you cannot notice it.

Makes good sense to me about going with the 412 standard shocks with the 13 1/2" travel. I think that it is the direction that I will go.

Thanks for the help.

I just got back from a 2000 mile trip to the UP of Michigan and my girlfriend and I got beat to death with the original 12" HD air shocks.

I ordered the Progressive 412 rear shocks with 13 1/2" of travel today and hopefully will cure some of the terrible bottoming issues with the stock oem HD shocks.

I hope to have a report next weekend on how the new ones work on my street glide.

I just ordered the same 13.5 inch Heavy Duty Progressive shocks.  Got to get them on before the annual ride to Gatlinburg and to run the dragon.  My new woman is way too sensitive to the bumps so I'm hoping this makes a step change improvement over stock CVO rear shocks.

I'll report back in about 6 weeks
