I thank everyone for their kind words and prayers. I will be fine as they discovered my aneurysm in time to fix the problem. I want others to be aware of this possible silent death
that is not on most smokers radar. Being informed may save a few lives, and that is the reason for posting this thread.

Mike, as the others, I'm very happy they found your problem early enough to take care of it.

When I was married the first time, my wife had pains in the area of her appendix.  She went in to have it removed and while they were doing the operation, they found a very deadly tubular cell form of cancer.  There had only been four other reports world wide of this type of cancer.  Remember this was around '84.  All the others were discovered after the symptoms drew the docs to the problem.  None lasted more than 22 months after diagnosis.

Because hers was found early totally unrelated to the cancer itself, after having a bit of her colon removed as a precaution, she's still alive and kicking today.

As they say, luck beats skill...  I'm sure that you consider yourself as very lucky....... and you are my friend.

Look forward to seeing you again next year in Eureka Springs.

Good luck and have fun in MV.

Glad for you, Unc!  I stopped smoking on Sept. 16, 2000, after cigs, pot, and cigars, for 39 years.  I'm still hooked on nicotine, as I kept on chewing and dipping after I stopped smoking.  Nasty habit, and I need to stop.  Easier said, than done.  I'm a dumass, of the first order.  Later--HUBBARD

Hubbard,

There is hope yet. I started smoking at 18 in College, because the class took smoke breaks in the hallway. As you say, dumb dumb dumb. I smoked till 29, quite for 5 yrs, and started again, dumb dumb dumb. Smoked then from then from 34 to 53. I have been a non-smoker/tobacco user for 6.5 yrs. No more cravings, finally. I wore a patch and smoked in the morning and evening while wearing the patch, dumb dumb dumb. I decided to start working out doing strength training as a New Year's resolution in 2010. After training for 2 weeks , which included treadmill, I wondered - why the hell am I smoking? I quit the cigarettes and followed the patch 3 step regime. Worked for me. Others have had a lot of success with Chantix.

Best of luck,
DH

I'm happy to see y'all in the I quit mode. I just would hope that you do the next step and get checked out for the abdominal aorta scan and make sure you are not a member of the drop dead without warning club. ( DDWWC ) Not a cool club to be a part of.
See you in MV and NMITM.

Thanks all, I just got the call I was waiting on. Pre-op next Friday the 26th and surgery on Tuesday the 30th. They are installing a custom field modified stint up through the femoral arteries. Yes they are having to go into both arteries and do a meet in the middle. ( MITM )
Not the one in Eureka Springs. That means I will be in Maggie Valley!   :)

Surgery was delayed till 9:30 so he should be asleep by now.  Surgery is expected to take between 4 and 6 hours.   I will post when MikeyT is in recovery or his room.
