Cam n pistons
« on: August 19, 2016, 08:17:16 PM »

Looking for a little input,

Have a 2016 cvo limited,  thinking about having a woods th-7h cam and 10.5 pistons thrown in. Looking to wake up that 110 a little more but nothing to radical. Would this help wake her up?

Has fat cat, sert.... obviously a retune afterwards

IMO... If you're going to do a disassemble, I'd have my cylinders honed to a 113 by a reputable machinists, & there's none better than right here on this site, have the heads cleaned up, the 110 head doesn't need much & really flows well.. Add a SE 58 TB along with a must spot on tune & you'll never come home!  :2vrolijk_21:
As far as cam choice & they're like opinions, everyone has one.. I feel there's better choices for quieter valve train & broader useable torque band. T Man, Genesis 577 (GMR) to name a couple.

Here's an example of a solid 113 build using a FullSac headpipe, Crusher mufflers & with a short cam that performed exceptionally well.

Thanks Mr D. I'll review it. I won't profess to much about the cams. I had a conversation with Jaime at FM. Was gonna bring it there for the work. But they don't tune sept, and he said it wasn't worth getting rid of for a pv. I asked about some possible miner things that I could do. He made mention of that 7h cam. Said the 777 would be noisier. He said the 7h was good with the stock heads and would help with a bump.
Just  trying to not go to far into the pocket book.

I certainly don't want a noisy drive train. Just not so familiar with all the decent brands. Not against looking into them.

You probably have a SEST, the Screamin' Eagle Street Tuner...which isn't super at all.  The SEST is extremely limited on what it can adjust, and if you had an HD dealer put it in, the fuel map in it is barely any better than the stock map.  The SEST won't wake it up much, even with a hot cam and more compression.  And you'll be spending a lot of money to tear-down and rebuild a working bike, for little improvement.

What you need is to find a good builder and a good tuner (the person, not the equipment) and go with his preferred tune-box.  Many of the good tuners like the TTS Mastertune, but there are others as well.  Tell us where you live, and you'll get several great recommendations.  And it'll cost a lot less to get a tune-box and great dyno tune than the pistons, cams, and re-tune you're looking at.

Many of the stock HD cylinders are out-of-round and/or tapered, so the rings don't make a good seal, and you lose power.  If you do decide to do the 10.5 pistons and a cam, it's only a little more $ to have the cylinders bored and honed so they're straight and round--and if you're doing that, you can do the GMR Performance 113" upgrade for the same money, since he'll bore your own cylinders.  Check the threads on here for the reviews.  It's a lot of of extra performance for minimal cost, and he gives a discount to forum members.  See dyno results at http://gmrperformance.com/services/dyno-results/ and https://www.facebook.com/GMR-Performance-559176144113934/

Thanks Para, I live in south Elgin, il. But I keep the bike in central wisconsin, Colma. It is the screaming eagle pro tuner, I was willing to ditch it but Fuelmoto didnt think it was necessary. Had I known more about this before buying the bike, tts does seem the way I would have went.

Glad to hear you have the Pro tuner, since it can adjust to get a really good map.  Mr. D's recommendations are good, and you'll probably get more tomorrow.

That dyno sheet posted above is mine. And if you wanted to go 113, I have take-off cylinders and heads from that build. I would sell for a decent price. That way you can still ride your bike while those are getting done, then begin rest of build. Regardless, good luck on whatever route you take!!
