Compensator sound question
« on: August 23, 2016, 12:15:14 AM »

I've read a lot about bad compensators, but not sure what they sound like when going out AND, is it bad to ride the bike if it's going out?

I just noticed a clunking sound at idle. From what I can tell, it is probably from the primary side.

I read about starting issues too, what kind of starting issues? My bike doesn't always fire right away, that's not from the compensator is it?

And last but not least... Can I keep riding it or will that hurt other things?

Thanks!

Thanks, my bike is a 2011 with about 20k on it, and stock compensator. My bike seems like it has been starting hard, it turns over fine, just seems to be taking longer to fire... can that be a symptom? I must not understand exactly what it does if it is affecting the bike firing.

I wear a full face, and have typical crappy hearing so I don't always notice everything right away. When sitting on the lift idling I noticed a clunking noise. And sometime when I turn it off it seems to ca-thud as it shuts down.

I will check out your site.

the 11 comp was not great and very prone to hard starting , clunk , bang rattle pretty much any you can think of it diI would suggest upgrading to the new style comp and install the compensaver kit at the same time and enjoy the lack of noise. We have a few videos on rattle before and after the kit is installed

X-2, Warranty installed a new one,  still rattled, raised hell , and was noisy.I didn't spend 35 K for this! Installed Compensaver..nice and quiet, just changed primary oil after first  10k miles, plug had very few cuttings on it, nice and clean. unlike before where it looked like it grew hair!    Happy Camper here! Damn good product!

Does the new compensator ( 42200064A) will fit a 2010 CVO Street Glide? If not what are my options?

Well I've had some problems with it sounding funky on start to now it's making some kind of clunking noice  can't hear it while riding but at a idle it's makeing clunking noice in the compensater area ain't sounding good . I had it all apart to change the belt it was hell getting the compensator bolt off and we didn't know about putting a wrench on the big bolt so we were working against the spring wondering if we screwed it up , never the less it sounds bad
