They certified it for 2017 according to the CARB report, so I assumed it was still in the mix.  But considering the dismal sales record I also wondered for some time now if they would continue it or just let it fade into history.

The V-Rod was always a bike in search of a market.  After so much fan-fare in the development and unveiling, the MoCo was emotionally committed to it, even though it was a poor sales performer.

I just never could get my head around the V-Rod.  I rode one of the first ones, when they were all Silver, or brushed aluminum, or whatever they were, but it didn't impress me at all.  Especially, the way it handled, and then, having to wind it up, to get anywhere.  I totally understand the concept, but I guess I'm too "Old School", to accept that kind of Motorsickle.  Especially, coming out of the Harley camp.  But that's just me.  Later--HUBBARD

My son that rides had a V-Rod for several years, bought it when he came back from Iraq.  I believe his was the second year and I would ride it sometimes but I just never quite got it.  The thing turned like a truck at slow speed.  Once he got married he got my old Ultra and we traded the V-Rod.

Speaking to the local K'ville dealer this past Saturday, the V-Rod is gone from the US market around October 2016.  News from the recent dealer meeting has the plan to keep it in the European market where it sells much better for a while longer.

Back when it was initially released I immediately felt like they really missed the target.  The engine turned out to be one of the most reliable they've ever had, and I think it could have been much more successful if they had put it in a more conventional chassis, perhaps based on the Sportster or Dyna.  I was immediately turned off by the chassis they actually put it in, and obviously most other folks felt the same way.  The first tipoff was the forward controls and silly riding position for a supposed performance model.  It didn't attract performance bike riders, and it didn't attract traditional Harley riders.  All in all it was an expensive experiment to find a bridge product to attract young owners of other brands to Harley, and the only good thing to come out of it was the Porsche designed engine.

The V Rod was HD bike to compete with the BMW Bike Market 15 years ago.

I think there would be a market, if they made it more practical. I rode a V-Rod with the aftermarket Roadglide kit and really liked it. Who wouldn't like spinning a bagger to 9 grand?
They are very dependable. Good friend tours on his ( stock, he's a minimalist) and rides solo, has 120,000 miles, never even adjusted the valves.

I Just picked up a (second) 2003 Silver Anniversary model 12K mikes on it. bags, windshield, bone stock other than that. Thinking about doing a Road Rod conversion and strip my 2012 back down to a performance toy. HD did miss the market in the US. They needed to make a touring model after all a bagger that can live at 8500 rpm is fun hahaha. HD did make what they called the Street Rod that had more ground clearance, less rake and better lean angles with mid controls for about 3 or 4 years. My Dealer buddy called me from the Dealer show and told me HD was ending US production in October also. my 2012 with FLH bags (its a work in progress, slow but progress)

That's a practical use of the V-Rod.  I like it.
