Adding lowers to wifey's road glide
« on: August 29, 2016, 10:24:32 PM »

Well, I hope someone on here can help me out.  I ordered and received colour matched lowers and as the parts were running out, it was becoming apparent that there is a piece missing from each side.  On my bike, there is a piece that fills the whole opening, when viewed from the front of the bike.  The mesh that covers the rad fills one half, and the duct that the air flows through on its way to your leg fills the other half.  When you open and close the vent, it actually closes against this duct.  On my wife's lowers, there is no duct.  There is no way that the install can be completed without this piece.  Does anyone have the service manual showing the install of the lowers in a 2016 Road Glide Special??  I could really use some fiche pics showing this piece so that I can send it or at least a part number to the stealership.  Thanks in advance

Are you referring to the plastic vent doors on the non-radiator equipped lower fairings designed for the pre-waterhead ultras?

58890-05   VENT, FAIRING LOWER

Oh yeah, forgot to write; that link is for the CVO Road Glide.  Did that since it comes stock with fairing lowers so a fiche with exploded view will exist in the parts breakdowns for that bike.  Since the RG Special didn't have the lowers stock there will be no such breakdown in its parts manual.

The pieces that I am missing are numbered 29 and 30 on the diagram......they don't seem to match the parts list though

Thanks for the help guys.  I was able to send the dealer a comprehensive description complete with diagram identifying the missing piece, and although it is back ordered, they are supposed to be coming.  What a great site!!

Yes and no...  you can still buy the standard lowers for use on the the air-cooled Road Glide Special, Street Glides and Road Kings.  That is why I asked which you were using on her Road Glide Special... which is air cooled.

So, I guess I'm now curious to know why you elected to go with the lowers designed around the radiators for the liquid-cooled motor?

Well, I am ignorant to the fact that there is different models available for the current year.  I ordered colour matched lowers, and for $975 Canadian dollars, that's what I got.  These have a solid insert where the radiator equipped ones have mesh like grilles
