Is Rain-X good?
« on: September 07, 2016, 12:54:55 PM »

Looking for something safe to use on windshield and expensive glasses so rain drops will blow off when riding.

The Rain-X website says it's not use on plastics. What can I use?

Lemon Pledge  :2vrolijk_21:

My wife worked at an optical shop years ago and they charged $10 for antifog treatment. It was just lemon pledge. I didn't know it was good for rain also. Thanks

Pledge is a great product and I use it on the seat and black plastic but the best product for your poly carbonate windshield is Plexus Plastic Cleaner.

As a side note: The Rain x washer fluid will plug up nozzles and lines...it just keeps coating them.

Does Plexus make me the rain water bead?

I've been using it for years in multiple vehicles with no issues.  I'm not sure how long you're implying it takes, but it must be longer than 5 years, anyway...

Love RainX!  But, I don't use it on plastics.  Maybe I'll try it, though.

A friend of mine uses Plexus on everything! Fairing, lowers, windshield. Never had a problem and he gets very few bugs sticking to his fairing or windshield

Rain-X came out with a version just for plastic, since the original was not recommended for plastic.  I haven't tried it myself, but here is the Rain-X website blurb if you're interested.

Pure Carnuba wax,. Works great on car headlamps/bike headlamps/bike windshields etc. Yes water will bead and run off. I won a bottle of Novus #1 in a raffle once and I do not see it works any better than carnuba. I would only recommend what is labeled as pure carnuba, definitely not a cleaner wax because they have abrasives, to clean with.
I use Mothers #3 with a orbital buffer on my car & bike headlamp lens and they look like new and even bugs wash of without effort. I also use orbital buffer with soft micro-fiber cover over a foam wax pad with Stoner Glass cleaner on my car windshields. Windshield will pass for new visually and water passes off above 30 MPH. Has nothing to do with bike windshield just a tip
