My stock rear tire is cupped and howls equally, left and right.

'10 CUSE5,
Original front, 14,400; AE front 22,000
Original rear,  12,440; AE rear 10,700; AE rear 13,000

I had severe cupping front and rear on the 407/408 but I've had NO cupping with the American elites, even with 22K on this front.

Original rear tire on 2010 EG classic only lasted 8K. This was due to both cupping and wear in the center of tire.  American Elite's brought that up to 10K.   Then I built the engine and installed Baker DD7.  That brought the mileage back down to 7-8K.  Don't know how those black marks kept following me!   ;D  :o
Seriously, I have never had a rear tire last over 10K, on any Harley I've owned in the last 37 years of riding, even when riding very easy.  Front tire generally last twice as long as the rear.
Hopefully the 2015 ultra limited will do better.
Just saying:

My (original) stock rear Dunlop howled so bad i thoght it was the belt or tires were rubbing frame or fender.  Started at 5-6k miles.

I over-inflated the rear to 42-44 psig.  Ended up getting 17k out of it, but it started hopping in the curves.  Don't recommend going that far down on the tread depth.  In the past I've had best luck with Avons, but that is before the rear tires got so wide.  Reminds me of my "X"

End up with new AE on both front and rear.

Got rear for $211 - local HD wanted $311 with free install....

Initial ride felt like new bike...I'll know more after the trip around the Dragon's Tail this weekend.

Just a theory of mine, but if the rear axle does not run parallel to the swing arm pivot shaft, the wheel and tire will not true and as the tire rotates it will also scuff the tire surface which could cause cupping.  I checked my 2009 RG and made a simple tool to measure the center to center distance on both sides.  They were off by 1/8" (right side greater than left).  Project that delta out the the OD of the tire and you can see a potential problem.  I elected to install the zippers axle and adjuster kit so I could independently adjust left and right side to assure they were the same.  Kit well made and easy to install.  Both side are now perfectly aligned.  Only time will tell what if any effect it has, but I feel a lot better!

I recently replaced both of my tires on my '15 CVORGU and it had 23,000 miles.  Front could have stayed on for a couple thousand more but the dealer had a good sale going and the heavy rain was imminent. I stayed with, and am happy with the Dunlap's...

Interesting. I noticed both my tires are cupped on the left side only. Also seems the front rides more on the middle to right side.

Dude that is so unbelievable, I've never gotten more than 9,000 on either tire in my entire life of riding Harleys. Are you sure you didn't add an extra zero by mistake, or forgot and put a set on and don't remember it?

Hey BigLew,
Nope, those are actual miles.  The new dunlop tires with the dual compound generally run that many miles, give or take a couple thousand.  No complaints here!!

I have had several bikes get 30K on the front of the new dual compound.  Rear I'm luck to get 17,000  I have had some go as quick as 13,000.  I average 24,000 on a bike.  So this has proved so for my CVO road King, two CVO road glides, and a CVO Road glide ultra.

I have found that a trip to Nevada in the summer will drastically reduce the # miles I get out of a tire.
