I have used the Amsoil on my 2009 FLTRSE3 motorcycle since the first oil change, no Primary issues, no transmission issues, however, the engine had to be completely rebuilt due to a lifter imploding in the engine case at 83,696 and I do not believe that was caused by poor oil. I'm riding out here in the Las Vegas heat and it gets pretty toasty on the roadways.

If you so desire you can put the Amsoil 20W - 50 in all 3 holes, which I believe Amsoil to be a better option to SYN3 for me at $9.65 per qt..

Due to the high temps in Vegas this is what I put in my motorcycle;
Engine Amsoil 20W - 50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil
Primary Amsoil Synthetic Primary Oil
Transmission Amsoil Synthetic Transmission Oil
Ditto on the Amsoil. We run it in everything we own.

I have used Redline, Mobil 1, and I'm currently running Syn 3.  As others have stated, with Syn3,  its nice to know your only a HD dealer away from getting your product.  Also, my local dealer will only put in Syn3 regardless of what oil you prefer.  Dealer will not say why, that's just the way they do business.

Are you stating, if you brought in your own oil for the motor, primary and the transmission and they were non Harley oils the Dealer would not put your oil in the motorcycle? If so, does this Dealer understand who owns the motorcycle. I understand the Dealership not stocking other brands of motorcycle oil.

Not to answer for the member you directed the question to... however I have known of dealers (and indie's) that will not install parts (including fluids) that are not purchased from them... even know of some that will apply a surcharge if they do install them. Only reason I can see why they do this is because not purchasing the parts/fluids from them cuts into their profit margin. :nixweiss:

I understand the only installing what you sell deal. I do not blame them. What does a business that sell and installs parts have to gain by installing something they don't sell.
I know for a fact, if you install something you didn't sell and it fails.. You will be accused of installing it incorrectly and causing the failure.
For once I do not blame the dealer for having a policy and sticking to it.

When the following run a Service Special; Las Vegas Harley Davidson, Red Rock Harley Davidson, Henderson Harley Davidson, Mother Road Harley Davidson in Kingman AZ, Zion Harley Davidson in Hurricane, UT all of these Dealerships are within a 130 mile radius and have put the non Harley oils I supplied in the motor, primary and trans without a problem.
You simply call for a quote and inform them you have your own fluids; it's quite common out here in Vegas. Hell, I just had my 2009 CVO Brakes and Clutch flushed and I supplied the DOT 4 Fluid another Service Special out the door $51.02 at Las Vegas Harley Davidson, again my DOT 4 fluid no issue.

My Dealer or my Indy, installs Parts / Tires / Fluids that I supply, no problem.

We are clear that if a component supplied by me is defective, then it's (and any additional labor $) on me...

My Dealer started stocking Redline years ago after I told them how good I thought it was...

When out West, I found that most Dealers stocked Redline Products (used in their personal Bikes Transmissions) The popular "formula" in their personal Bikes,,, Engine= Syn3, Primary=Formula+, Trans=Redline.

This is always a good topic in the late winter early spring to rehash.  I ran AMSOIL 2-50 in my Wide Glide previously and have read some great postings for other brands as well.  I'm considering letting the delaer do my first oil change with a full service and then switch over to something to reduce the first gear 'clunk'.  Thanks for the ideas.

Since the world revolves around money, I'd guess the dealer makes more profit on selling HD oil.

Just my 2 cents worth, I had changed my oil to Redline and after 700 miles (to me) the engine was a lot noisier on Redline than the Amsoil I had been using. Could not stand it. I went back to Amsoil and run it in all 3 holes.
Amsoil 20-50
Amsoil Tranny oil
Amsoil Primary oil.
All is well. Bike doesn't thrash(sounds like thrashing) so I am sticking with Amsoil products.
