Compensaver
« on: October 25, 2016, 02:18:37 PM »

Did a search on "Compensaver", mostly older info. Anyone running one on their Rushmore CVO? Feel like its necessary? GMR website recommends to install w/new compensator or very low miles. I'm coming up on 10K on '15 FLTRUSE... wonder how low is "low mileage"?

I also get some "slapping" noise in the primary when shifting a lower speeds. I've been considering putting in a different chain tensioner as well.

Give Steve a call @ GMR get it straight form the horse's mouth on mileage question  and chain tensioners. When I talked to him about that,he said he uses the good ole HD Auto Tensioner i've been there , done that on all the other tensioners .  I Promptly went home pulled out the Hayden, stuck the HD  tensioner back in, nice and quiet again.

You can't go wrong with getting more lubrication on a part that fails due to friction.  I have the Compensaver ready to install but since I had a Indy install my SE compensator incorrectly I was given a Baker to try out.  I don't think it will make 1000 miles before it fails.  The Indy apparently forgot about the increased HP & TQ on the S&S 124.  Baker does not recommend them on big HP motors.  Oh yeah looking for another shop as well. That is compensator #7 but I have 90,000 miles on the bike. Original went 41,400 and after that they did not hold up that long.

Make sure the chain has the  proper tension and the tensioner it set correctly. . Should have about 3/16" -1/4" play at the top of the chain close to the middle. Mine was making a little noise, had the primary cover off, found it had about 3/4" of play, that's too much had a little chain sap making some noise.

Moved the tensioner up one click with a screwdriver in the back , all good now. Think you might be able to pull the derby cover off and sneak a long thin screwdriver in there and push up on the chain for a quick check without pulling cover.

Have seen several posts on how to take the slack out riding the bike. I just preferred to take a look and make sure what was up...Greg
