S&S 570es in a Twin Cooled Rushmore
« on: November 01, 2016, 11:24:50 PM »

Have a riding friend that is doing a 107 kit on his '14 Twin Cooled Ltd & going with a S&S 570es cam.. I know the 570 isn't the flavor of the month with cams, but always has been a proven performer set up right ..10.2-3ish be ok with a proper tune?
Those with more tried experience, would that cam shine in the mod he's doing? Also, is the 570 exhaust sensitive? He's running D&D X Cat headpipe, D&D Boss Cat 4" muffler with vortex wrapped baffle.

The timing of the intake and lift is very nice on the 570. Was very popular at 10:1 in 95 builds

At the compression you are talking a Cyclerama 575 would be a nice fit.

How do you think it would play in a 107 Touring bike?

Quite well actually.
Here's a 107 with ported heads and CR-575's, comp was calculated at 10.45:1

I think that has to do with the lack of publicity, I can tell you from experience, both the CR-570 and CR-575 are great cams.

Sorry to have hi-jacked the thread.

Cam grinds
One of many components that influence the outcome.
Not a fair argument when we hear "good cam" "not good cam"
The 570 S&S cam has much higher exhaust duration , 15 deg with an early 55 deg open, than intake which depending on the port, exhaust, cubic inches, and compression can be a hit or a flop. Same can be said for the others but single pattern or a small exhaust bias, assuming not too early opening exhaust will work better in more applications,  less pipe sensitive.

The exhaust timing on all the S&S cams has always been debated. I ran the 510 and the 585 with two different builds and heads. I liked them but the Woods 400 made the 585 seem soft on the bottom. Huge lift and intake timing differences.  Also set the quench better.

Point is not one is better. It just felt better where I rode more.
The 570 would have been a better pick over the 585 but was at 10.5:1 and reasoning was the timing was better on 585 and more lift. In reality the timing would have been nice.

yes, torque in fine, from fairly low to about as high as I take it.ive got a V&H pro pipe, works OK for me,i would think his pipe would work very well too (never used one,so I have no experience with them)

107, flat tops, pistons were .004 in the hole, 84cc chambers. I didn't assemble this build, only tuned it.

Can the CR 575 run with 10.5 Pistons?
