Battery Tender is a brand and I would stick with those.  Not just for winter ... anytime the bike is going to be parked more than overnight.

I believe Battery Tender is made by Deltran.  There are other similar products on the market, but be careful when looking at ads for them.  Some make all kinds of bogus claims to try to justify exorbitant prices.  When they start talking about bringing batteries back from the dead, or special conditioning cycles, move on the next ad.

Out here costco has one of the higher amp battery tenders. The actually battery tender brand for a good price. Might be worth checking if you have a costco in your area

Every bike I have bought since the 05 came with one. The small .75 amp on the 05 and both the others were the 1.25 amp ones. Work wonderful on the lawn mowers and cars that are setting for extended amounts of time.

For whatever it is worth I went on a mission this week on this exact question since my 17 was finally going to be here and long story short I think they all work fine and do the job but I do think (at least most of the people I spoke to that are much smarter than me) the best is the "pulse tech". I won't bore everyone why they say it is the best and they all also said that all the major brands will work just fine.. Below was the best deal i could find on it.
