Selecting a 58mm TB Trottle Body
« on: November 12, 2016, 11:37:28 AM »

Is there a huge difference in throttle bodies? There appears to be a huge difference in price. Is the HD 58mm for $350 a decent choice? Should I spend the extra for something else? Collecting parts to do a 113 build. Thanks.

I have the HPI 58mm elliptical. I don't know how the different shape is supposed to change anything as far as power, but the bike as a whole runs great with it. I trusted the builder for the most part because he's never steered me wrong. It also went in a 113" build.

I see many builds posted with the SE 58mm that look great. I'd say as long as the rest of the parts/tune are solid, either TB will perform well.

I went with HPI, a little on the $$ end but there are many just as good options out there now.

The SE 58mm w/ 5.3 Injectors works well for me in the 117.

I'm real happy with the HPI 55mm throttle body with the 58 intake on my 117.  Nice crisp throttle response and nice numbers, 138 HP and 140 torque

I like to suggest the HPI 55/58 TB.  It is a bit more but because it will allow you to use about any aftermarket AC with out modification.  The bottom line price becomes a wash compared to the SE 58 and new AC made for the SE58.

Running the 55 HPI on my 124" along with HPI 5.3 injectors and a HD heavy breather setup for a 58mm TB modified to match the 55.    Not sure how much additional I would pick up with a bigger HPI, but doubt you'd ever tell unless you looked at a dyno sheet.

HPI is nice since you send your stocker to them and they swap all the electronics for you onto the new HPI body
