It's time to replace the tappets pushrods and covers on my 2010 CVO Street Glide.
It's a stock compression 110 with TTS Master tune and this engine has 21K on the clock.
The tick/rattle shows up at 2800 rpm and is now making me worry about what may happen if I don't address the noise.
Back when my ESP was still good I tried to get the dealer to address it but they said they contacted Mother Harley and it of course was normal and don't worry about it. I didn't worry but now I want to be proactive.
What is the consensus? Which ones should I buy? What about cam bearings?

First, the tick/rattle isn't necessarily going to disappear with a new set of lifters.  There are a lot of parts that contribute to the noisy nature of the Twin Cam engines other than the lifters, and some of the problem is strictly design related.  Note the M8 has a totally different design for the valve train and it's quiet.  I just mention this because I don't want you to assume changing the lifters will suddenly make the engine quiet.

The real reason to proactively change lifters on 110 engines is the increased failure rate of the lifter rollers on those engines, thanks to the pounding caused by the cams and valve springs.  By the time you hear the chirping or squealing noise created by a failed roller, damage is already being done.  Thus the recommendation to just change them out on a regular schedule, like other routine maintenance.  I've seen people recommend anything from 10k to 20k mile intervals, btw.

You will find recommendations for pretty much any brand of lifter around here, but I think I can safely say there are more recommendations for S&S lifters than any others.  I wouldn't recommend any of the Harley lifters, even the ones they use in the latest model 110's.

Do you think my noise could be the rocker shaft? I saw this video on you tube promoting rocker lockers and this may be what I am listening to. If the rocker shaft is making noise it won't cause a failure. I just want to be proactive and change the lifters/pushrods and tubes. It seems this may be a good habit to get into especially since my ESP has expired.

S&S "standard", Harley "B" lifters, and Fueling (all the same Delphi mfg) all good.  S&S premium and Harley Delphi mfg SE lifters better.  Jims are even better yet but also more expensive.

Try rocker lockers on the top.  Last, Torrington inner cam bearings.  Then you'll be set for awhile.

I just replaced my valve springs to S&S Behive, installed rocker locker (since I had the rocker plate off) and installed S&S std lifters.  24k miles on bike and done as maintenance.  Now the top end just purrs.

S&S lifters & beehive springs are almost a must for 110 motors,use Torrington inner bearings

Hylift topline low bleed lifters offer a better alternative. They include axle oiling and are no more than S&S standards. Nothing wrong with hd 18404-08 pushrods or even reuse the stock rods.  Install rocker lockers at the same time.

It seems to me the Hylift tappets would bleed down at idle and be noisy. I am using the stock HD cam in this 110 and I don't think the overlap is that extreme. She idles good with plenty of torque at low RPM.

This may be all I need. Maybe I should open her up and see what the tappets/cams look like first then order parts. Some say you need to watch the inner cam bearing if that needs to be done I will probably take it to my stealer. I don't have the bearing tools or the oil pump centering tool.
What is the difference in the S&S standard and race lifter besides the price? Has anyone had first hand experience with both?

At 21K it is wise to swap those lifters as a preventive maintenance.

S&S have treated me well. At 21,000 it would be pretty cheap insurance

Never will understand why anyone wants to change the pushrods, unless they are damaged. Definitely not use the heavy ass adjustable ones if you do not need them. And if you are changing lifters only as a maintenance item, definitely no need for pushrod replacement.

I agree.....if you are doing it yourself, buy the low profile rocker wrenches, makes the project sooooo much easier.

do yourself a favor & replace the lifters with S&S standards.dont wait till your OEM units take a crap
