Every time I read this stuff it makes me even happier I got an o6 while I could.  Love that bike! :jalapeno:

Hey! I'll second that BUT for the 05's I love that bike  :cherry:there easy to modify I think it was the best color combo that year of all the 04's came close. Thats why I bought Bandanagirl the same year. I think every year it's going to get harder and harder to get anything done. Even this year I've had Tech's tell me that in there opinion the 103's are alot better motor to work on or with then the 110's.

Wonder how they're going to do that?  Lock the side covers, so you can't get to the ECM, make it so if the ECM is ever disconnected/bypassed that the bike shuts down?  There's going to have to make it biker-proof, cuz a lot of the guys here are really good wrenches and they'll find a way around anything the MoCo does.  JMO.

I reckon they'll give you the valves on Air Cleaner and Exhaust that we already have Charlie.

Jim,
You could be right on the money there.  Next come the electrically operated "flapper" valves.  But the good thing is, those things can be removed.  You're working on that issue as we speak aren't you?  8)

I'm with UPC.  No more new bikes for me.  It is getting to the point where these things are gonna be like cages.............you have to go to the dealer to get "ANYTHING" done.  Personally, I like doing my own work.  I'm sticking with my 06, and if I get a hankering for another scoot............there is always eBay.

That would make Maine stiffer than EPA or California guidelines.  Can't speak to accuracy but I did at least make sure the citations in the following were correct.  Seems to give an attempt at explanation of Maine statutory requirements as of about one year ago.

I was hesitant to quote anyone, buy my information came direct from Calvin Reynolds who is the owner of Big Moose H-D in Portland Maine as well as the dealerships in Augusta and Bangor Maine. Cal is more or less retired, his son Steve whom I grew up with runs things now, but Steve as well as his GM Maverick echoed Cal's comments. From reading your link,( interesting that UMB is not the only game in Maine these days) I would infer that what is happening is similar to cops who write tickets for helmets the deem unfit purely of their own judgement. Thanks for the link

I was wondering much the same thing Brian.  Whether the officers are simply misinstructed from higher up the food chain or writing what they've learned the market will accept is a different question of course.  But given what yours were telling you and, at some variance to what they're experience in real life, what statute still seems to be it seems that someone is taking advantage somewhere.

Historically what has been the rep of the state patrol (and others up there)?  Ok to work with and straight shooters unless you screw up?  Or the other side of the coin that takes not the advantages granted but those they can get away with too?  Might give some insight about where practices that at least seem beyond statute or admin rule originally come from.

Don,
I have the utmost respect for Maine State Troopers. They are professionals through and through. Even in my bad old days running a tri-state 1% club, they ALWAYS treated me in a professional manner. Never once busted me or any of my guys on chicken chit crap. Townie cops on the other hand are as bad as what most people think an Alabama Sheriff is like. Some towns worst than others with the Old Orchard Beach PD heading the dickhead list. Westbrook PD a close 2nd followed by Lewiston and so on. Portland PD was a matter of " don't poke the elephant and he won't sit on you "
Same thing pretty much holds in New Hampshire and Vermont. State Troopers are to be respected whether you're runnin on the right side of the law or the wrong. You go to Laconia, it'll be Townie cops hasslin you. And VT is nothin but little small burgs and lots of state highways, so you can see how that goes.

Not unexpected.  You do tend to see the same thing pretty much all over the country.  Locals are very much hit-and-miss while you've got a good idea what to expect from the state patrols.  Would like to say that it adds to the spice of things.  But can remember the occasion or three when the local and regional spices were a bit bitter.
