The stock 110 engine is set up for low to midrange torque, and due to the cams more than anything else the torque and power fall off rapidly over 4000 rpm. Compared to the engines that preceded the 110, like the CVO103, the 110 is much better suited to hauling around a heavy touring bike loaded with people and gear. Many of us with the 103's complained of the opposite problem, lack of bottom end torque. Better cam choices from the aftermarket these days can help you keep the low end of the stock 110 and also extend the useful rpm range for better top end power. Stock is a compromise at best, one that attempts to make the ever heavier bikes pull better on the low end as well as meet emissions regulations. If stock doesn't suit you, find a good engine builder/tuner and have yours modified to fit your riding style.

As usual, Jerry's got it right
My Bone Stock (mufflers too
) '05 SEEG CVO 103 will smoke a stock 110, especially on top end where the little 103 just keeps on revving to put the Bike way past the Pin
My '09 SERG 110 (Pipe/Muffs/Tuner) was quickest when shifted around 4200 as the Torque Curve fell off of a ledge around 4k... 'Trying every trick in the book, the 110 was out of breath at 110mph (indicated) and all in around 112 or so...
Major Tom's '15 CVORGU 110 seemed to have more power a little higher up (than the pre-Rushmores), but I didn't have the opportunity to Run the Ton when I was puttin' the spurs to her
It's the 255 "school bus" emissions cams... more "flexibility" with aftermarket...
