That doesnt sound right, especially if you're under warranty. But, living in the Garden State, who knows? The dealer a wise guy or what?  ;)

Well.....keep in mind...there ARE reasons NOT to replace something under warranty.  Don't bash the MoCo/dealers all the time.  Not saying that's the case here.  But let's say for example...(and I know NONE of us do this)...say you're washing your bike.  Unknowingly, your rag drops on the ground as your drying your bike...next swipe and swoosh...there is a nice scratch in the paint.  OH CRAP!  now, do you take that back to the dealer and attempt to claim it?  Or a stone chip..or, or, or...
Again..not saying it happend here..but would you ride your bike when there is salt on the road?  Of course not.  But believe it or not...some people do.   :'(  Then they don't WASH the bike and they park it for a while.  All of a sudden you get corrosion and chrome peeling....maybe even a bubble under the paint because there was a small stone chip?
There's always two sides to every story.

Sure wish it's warm up to get rid of this white crap all over.  Of course, I'd need a good shower to boot in order to wash the roads off.

Prayin for spring to hurry up and get here.

Cheers,
J

J,
Of course I would - and do.  I ride year round (northern VA, ~30 miles south of Wash, DC).  I do wash the bike down every couple of days.  Sometimes difficult with temps around 20, but gotta get rid of the salt and sand.
Will I do this with my new CUSE - yeah, probably.

I agree......always two sides to every story.  That's exactly why I've kept my thoughts to a minamum on this issue.  I guess the first question that pops into my head is "what reason did the dealership or the MoCo rep give for denying the claim?"

However, keeping this chrome issue in perspective......most of us CVO owners are previous Harley owners (some of us have owned many previous HDs)......riding in the same conditions and in the same part of the country as we do today and never had the chrome issues that appear to be a more recent issue.  Add to that, that many of us live in Calif. Ariz. Fla. and other parts of the country where we don't have snow, salt or sand issues.  Having said that......for the most part.......the MoCo has gotten behind these chrome issues and replaced the parts.

I believe that the chrome issue, the paint issues with several CVO models all lend credance to a quality control issue at the MoCo.  Is that quality control issue "in house" or is it a problem with vendors and contractors to the MoCo I don't know but there is definately a problem.  JMHO

Duane, I live in SJ also.  Who is your dealer?  You got me worried.  I am going to go over my SEUC with a fine tooth comb now.  But I too would try somewhere else.  Sounds like your dealer is an ass for even contacting the MOCO.

I have used after market platers before and was told aluminum was porous and could eventually flake.  I even had a S&S teardrop engraved and gold plated.  It took that 5 years and neglect to start peeling.  After 23 years we still can't get it all off.  Crager SS car rims are a prime example of peeling problems.  But that is after many years.  I thought peeling problems were minimized now.

I'm not even sure what bike it was (maybe on '03 Deuce), but I had an upper triple-tree with bad chrome and the dealer replaced it with no questions or discussion.  I feel your pain, but it would seem that they couldn't deny warranty unless they has some good explanation.  I would also expect that the dealer should be going to bat for you.

Was the 03 Deuce a CVO? I have one - 2003 Anniversary Screamin Eagle Deuce (gold/black)  and I have noticed some slight problems in that same area? It has the  7 year warranty and I had thought about checking into coverage for that problem.

So basically they're saying none of it was their fault, but as a good-will jesture, they will replace your mirrors?  That's real big of them.  It'll be interesting if that happens to my bike what they'll do about the wheels beings I have the extended coverage on the wheels.  If they say it's a road hazzard that caused it, they have to replace, if they say it was because I caused the surface to deform somehow, they have to replace it, so I'm wondering what "new" excuse they'd come up with not to honor their contract with me??? :-*

Thanks for the response. Guess I ought to take mine in so that I can get the argument  started with the moco.   Started to say "pissing contest" instead of "argument"  but after reading posts from last night I didn't know if an argument with moco would be classified as "pissing" or "peeing" contests. From what I read it appears to all depend on the size of the dog?  Does anyone have the link for dog size classifications handy?  Also if anyone knows, is it possible for one side of the contest to be "pissing" and the other "peeing" -- big dog arguing with little dog?

extended coverage on the wheels.

Red, I have the wheel coverage too. I might try that route, since the rep already decided it was road debris :-\.

I am still pissed at the whole thing, these bikes are 50% more money then stock and this is poor customer service. Bottom line is that the moco will just send the stuff back to the original vendor and get compensated, I don't know what the big deal is.
