Don congrats, looks awesome.

At the very least you can put a drain in the bottom of it and fill it with ice and beer.

Looks great. :2vrolijk_21:

Jerry?  Does yours have this heim joint type connection on the hitch?  If so how is the connection secured?  If you were to walk off someplace leaving the bike and trailer connected what keeps someone from lifting the trailer off the hitch?

Way to go Buddy! I'm proud of ya. Now, use it for the trip to Nelson and report back (so I know what to order for myself ;D).

Another question to the previously illuminated.  How long of a security cable/chain has proved to be "long enough" in common usage to rope these things down when they are unattended and unhooked from the bike?

Thanks AJ.  In fact I'm going to try to do just that.  Almost two weeks between now and then will hopefully be plenty long enough to get a hitch delivered and get it installed.  Unless there's just some unexpected problem with getting the parts here I fully plan on taking it on the trip.

I'll be using the hitch "exposed" as I don't have that Street Glide rear light ready to go on the back of the bike yet.  But that can be installed later.  A little temporary exposure won't keep me from trying this thing out in the mean time if I can get a hitch here.

Looks nice Don. I would think about gettin one. I always wondered about parking on hills or anything where I would need to go backwards.

Don

I have pulled an American Legend trailer for thousands of miles.
Pulled it with an 80" EVO and realized, NOT enough motor.
Pulled it with a stock 88" T/C dresser, much better, but gas mileage sucked. (110 miles to a tank)
Pulled it with a 95" T/C, plenty of power and 135 miles to a tank.
With your bike at 120 square and discounting the pinging you should reach 150 miles easily.

Always and I repeat ALWAYS remember it's back there.
Don't try riding the white line on the edge of the road. Your trailer will be riding in the dirt.
Only fear or concern I have ever had about the trailer was stopping in the rain.
That's like 200 extra lbs of weight pushing on that rear tire.
I took mine to Daytona a few years ago. Left Charlotte in the rain. 500 miles later arrived in Daytona in the rain.
Hit a dead deer on I95 at 80 miles an hour. Not enough time to react. Scary seeing the trailer jump higher than the tour pak in the rear view mirrors. But after it was over, I thought, That wasn't to bad!

Always remember it's back there and ride with that in mind and it will be ok and you also!
Good luck.

And FYI
Home Depot sell Krylon Red, should only take 3 or 4 cans depending on the runs!

And one final thing,
When you get it packed, take 1/2 that chit out!
You don't need it!

Thanks Chip.  I have wondered just how the engine will feel with the new load.  It gets retuned next Tuesday so will know then how it feels "now."  I'm assuming real all season numbers will be less than artifially inflated winter-only numbers.  But it should still be adequate to the task.  Good to see the comparison of your various steps to see when enough truly has been enough.

I will DEFINITELY be doing some test braking as my first thing after getting this rig all sorted out.  I don't have a clue what it will feel like back there.  I want to know the seat of the pants feel at least a little before taking off with it chasing me for 6000 miles or so.

And.....  it bounced higher than the tour pak?!?!!  Holy crap.  If that ever happens to me I hope the tan seat is on the bike rather than the black seat.  The stain would be much easier to hide.....

Hills are no problem.
Your experienced enough to not park going downhill on the bike alone so it's just a little more time to back in the trailer.

As I said above,

Always remember it's back there!

And there will be no problem.

Cool.  Always appreciate experienced advice.

A few more skills to learn and practices to get familiar with.  It'll be good.  And it'll hold beers.  What's not to love?

And one other thing,

You will soon join the hoards of owners that proclaim,

"I can't even tell it's there".

Only time you will notice it's there is when you feel that little bump when you pull across a curb or speedbump!
And at the gas pump!

I'm very prone toward riding close to the center line.  Might have to get used to moving outboard a little.  Will have to remember not to Evil Knievel the curbs when it's hooked on either   :huepfenlol2: .
