Don,

It looks like most everything has been said and, as usual, lots of good advice has been offered.  One question you had that I don't think was answered was about locking the trailer to the hitch.  You'll get a pin lock and keys with your hitch kit.  The Bushtec's use a, I believe patented, hitch/pin setup that works very well.  There are also two grease 'nipples/zerks', whatever they're called, on the tongue that you'll want to keep lubed.  No big deal at all, just a pre-trip lube and you're ready to go for the entire trip.

Congratulations on the trailer, you'll never regret the decision.

Bob

Thanks Bob.  Your answer reminded me of another question I had about their heim joint setup.  How much rotation does it have?

If, for example, you somehow get club footed and drop the bike to the guards does the joint system start bearing load and you twist something?  Or is there enough rotation that if the bike is dropped the trailer just sits back there mocking you?

Dam Don, when you make up your dam mind you dam well set things in motion dam quickly.

Congrats!

I will still be waiting until winter and will probably buy new.

Anne gets a saddlebag and I get a saddlebag, the tourpac is for computer and t-shirts...at least until next year!

I just happened to have stumbled in to a couple of good used options within driving range Bill.  Or I'd have done the same thing.

Don if you can't get a hitch in time I  will send you my hidden hitch. I have it off the bike to get chromed. Not pulling our trailer on the Nelson trip.

Thanks Brian.  Will be calling Bushtec later today to order parts.  Hopefully they'll have stock on hand to ship today.  If not I'll call the dealer in Kansas City that found this unit and sent me in the right direction.  If they both strike out I'll definitely give you a call.  Thanks!

Don, if the guy you are buying the trailer from does not have the owner's dvd call Bushtec and ask to purchase one.  I'm sure the cost is modest and it is very well done and will address all your questions.

It's supposed to be with it Jerry.  Also found the owner's manual in an online PDF last night.

So I was following along the other day and watching AJ's questions etc. and wham, in slides 2Ln and AJ must have just given up or something.

This place kills me sometimes.

Nice rig Don, I was interested to see all the folks with trailers as well.  I guess it is becoming a CVO "must have" option :nixweiss:

Rog, I already think I know it's not a "must have" option.  But with the greater amount of things I like to carry on longer trips anymore I'm hoping it will be at least worthwhile two or three times a year.  If so I'll be satisfied with the investment.

Howie, I don't disagree.  But I envision it only being pulled on longer trips.  Weekenders and other jaunts will be like always.  And even on the longer trips it'll get locked down somewhere at destination.  So just a highway cruiser for the there-and-back.

Howie, you might be surprised.  One of our members from Texas had a trailer last year at CC, I followed him to the hotel one late afternoon and while I will admit I didn't want to look like a dickhead by passing him and a couple of guys he was riding with......he was leading and we left a good number of folks trailing down the road.  He never took it off the entire week.

His was a low profile single wheel job as I recall, but I would necessarily say all the fun days of riding are gone, nor the relatively quick ones.......now that said I am sure "most" trailer haulers wouldn't be keeping up with you, but I learned a long time ago, never say never 'cause you may get surprised.

Oh and I also recall, if memory serves it was a  :cherry: which I have heard may well be the fastest color.

Really?  That much?  Damn....

The guy "entertained" an offer of $1500 and declined.  Turned out saying he wouldn't go below $1900.  In fact it sounded like he'd have gone down another $100.00.  That still seemed high to me.

The trailer new is $2395.00.  It's being sold without hitch or harness.  A gent at Bushtec told me the hitch, harness and isolator kit would be $420.00.  For just a couple hundred dollars difference on a four or five year old trailer I'd rather buy it brand new and have the manufacturer's warranty in my back pocket.  Seems hard to justify a new or nearly new price for a trailer half a decade old  :nixweiss: .

The really sucky part was that just talking to the guy and looking this one over made me want one.  Maybe it'll wear off.....

To late now. This will never happen w/the "Twolane" I know. You're already having dreams about it painted nicely to match your :cherry: all :pimp: out diamond cut/powdercoated to match. Don't even try to fight it just go ahead and order it. :huepfenlol2:

First off congrats Don on the purchase of your trailer. Wow!!! That didn't take long at all only took one night of dreaming about it to purchase it. Now several nights of dreaming how you want to "pimp" it out, and seeing some of the trailers that will be on the Nelson trip I can only guess what yours will look like come next spring if not sooner. ;D

Warning about the cooler,  As you add ICE Don't forget to always drain the excess water off ( it will sneak up on you) - the Added weight of extra water will increase your tounqe weight without your thinking about it.  Causing you unexpected problems if you really need to stop in a hurry.  Just another thing to learn but eaisly over looked.
Very good advice on draining the cooler. We have about 10 bikes pulling trailers in our group. We make jokes about tonga or tongue weight as in nothing taste better than tongue weight. Usually we wait until we get close to the event to load the ice chest with ice and food and we carry one of those collapsable ones for just beer. But then our trailers have pop up tents in them so average weight close to 500 lbs loaded, 325 empty. we do alot of Abate weekend campout functions.
