Completely agree on the theft prevention Chip.  Someone determined and practiced will get it.  Cables and other things are deterrence against the more casual and more common efforts that might pop in to someone's head.  A determined thief will get it though.  Just part of the equation.
If someone really wants it they're probably going to get it.  But you don't have to make it easy for them.  I never used to lock my bike if I went in to a restaurant or a mini-mart when gassing up.  But I sure do now after my friend got ripped off while eating breakfast at a Waffle House across from Opryland Hotel.  It is a sad commentary on what our society has develved to.

TC, the parking lot can be well stocked at Hot Springs now.  I'd likely not use the trailer for such a short trip were it not for having the cooler available.  But hey, beer is beer.

At least for now I'm taking a middle ground on the spare tire.  Just got off the phone with the rep from Bushtec ordering the hitch parts.  We spoke of the tire.  He said their heavy six ply tires can and have functioned as run flat.  So rather than spending a couple hundred bucks or more for a spare tire, wheel and cover (when I don't know absolutely for sure that I'm going to love this thing or not) I opted for an $8 spare tube.

I'll run the bitch flat or break a bead if need be and swap tubes. Or at least I think I will.

The cool thing about having the spare wheel and tire is you also get wheel bearings - a wheel bearing comes pre-installed in the spare wheel and tire...  With the construction of the tire - I don't worry so much about it - but the wheel bearing is a different story....

I agree - If someone really wants to steal your trailer, odds are they will, regardless of how you try and protect it...but, I'm going to make them work up a sweat doing it - and maybe deter the spur of the moment thief or kids playing around...

Scott, that was as much an issue as was the tire.  Just going to risk it this first trip though.  The trip will give me a real clue as to whether I like both the idea and the practice enough to keep it all and really set it up to my tastes.  If it stays I'll end up with a spare tire and wheel.  For now, well.....   just chancing it this time.

This is what I used at MV last fall - I Wraped it around the wheels and around a Light Post! Then in York for the tour of the plant we tied it to a gaurd Rail in the parking lot.

The Other Nice feature about doing this is you can always save a bike parking place at the Hotel close to your room.

I found this at homedepot - The stuff that stops superman :)

So I was following along the other day and watching AJ's questions etc. and wham, in slides 2Ln and AJ must have just given up or something.

This place kills me sometimes.

Nice rig Don, I was interested to see all the folks with trailers as well.  I guess it is becoming a CVO "must have" option :nixweiss:

I haven't given up on the trailer yet. This is too fuuny though... I'm reading this and still have two pages of posts to read!

I'm glad Don got his trailer first so he can have all the questions answered for me.

Now I just have to decide if I want new or used. That is, am I going to use it enough to justify the cost of a new one?

Thanks Bob.  Your answer reminded me of another question I had about their heim joint setup.  How much rotation does it have?

If, for example, you somehow get club footed and drop the bike to the guards does the joint system start bearing load and you twist something?  Or is there enough rotation that if the bike is dropped the trailer just sits back there mocking you?

Don,

You'll never have to worry about having enough rotation, if it were possible, you could turn the bike completely upside down and the trailer would still be on its wheels.

That's because of it's patented 360 degree rotation.

This is what I used at MV last fall -

That I've used for other purposes in the past I've already got a relatively heavy 15' wrapped steel that looks just like that.  Lock uses a barrel key.  In practice will 15' prove to be long enough or will that be something that will make you fight it to make it work?

That's a biggie.  Something I'd really wondered about this hardware.  If it was documented someplace I'd not found it yet.  By a couple of close up photos I thought it offered universal rotation.  But also couldn't tell for sure.  That's good to know. Thanks.

That was precisely my thought AJ.  Just because I can think of ways it might be very convenient doesn't mean I'll actually use it a great deal.  Really just can't say yet.

I can very easily see it staying stored except for trips that are longer than just three or four day long weekends.  Since I don't know what use will actually be it seemed prudent to explore the used market.  Finding a nicely tricked out piece with only a thousand miles for almost $1k less than it cost new made it a much easier decision.  That doing it this way eliminated the wait was just an excellent bennie.

AJ, what I found was not a conversation forum per se.  Much more of a place where people list their products for sale and/or ask some questions of the manufacturer. It is a subsidiary site on Bushtec's own website.  It's also where the information for the trailer I ended up buying originally was found.  Take a look here:
