BTW, Twolane bought my '05 banana right off this site :2vrolijk_21:

Then the relative who was actually buying it bailed and CVOMoe joined the site and bought it from me.  Sort of a two wheeled paying it forward kind of thing  :2vrolijk_21: .

Don,

The things we do for kinfolks!

I must say that the ebay description you wrote when you re-sold her was awe-inspiring!  I think I even copied it in case I wanted to use it when selling another bike!

Glad it all worked out for you and we got another member to the site.
(think they are ready to move up to an '07 B/O???)

My apologies to someone.  More apology because I don't remember who.  When I got this Bushtec trailer several weeks ago someone asked for pictures of the hitch installation.  They were contemplating it themselves or something.

Promised to post them right away.  At the time, however, "right away" was expected to be a few days.  Things got busy here and it became most of a month.  Finally got time to finish messing with it last night.  Here goes to someone whose name I have forgotten:

This is with the hitch installed and hidden as well as it might be by the new Street Glide rear fascia.

Here's the same thing with the hitch installed in the receiver.

Side view.  There are two vertical brackets that attach to the vertical brackets on the side of the fenders (the brackets intermediate to the struts and lower fender bracket).  The receiver itself is a third bracket that attaches to those two verticals and to the four bolts that attach the rear of the saddlebag support brackets to the lower fender bracket.  All put together the rear end of the bike is actually much more rigidly tied together than it was to begin with.

From below with the receiver installed.  There's roughly .250-.375 clearance between the receiver and the tail end of the Street Glide light.  On first assembly they actually made contact.  Just barely.

There is some adjustment (brackets are supplied with elongated holes throughout) that can be taken advantage of in the assembly.  Loosened everything back off and reassembled with an eye toward using all the adjustment available in the correct direction.  Voila, no more contact.  You can lift the back of the bike off the ground from the receiver and it still won't contact the fascia.

Trailer harness is cinched down to the brackets in a couple places down low.  Runs up beside the vertical brackets and behind the detachable hardware here.

Harness continues on forward beneath the strut.  Again, tied to the detachable bracketry and the strut as it moves forward and eventually crosses up between the fender and strut in an area that will be hidden by the seat.

And the new interconnect under the seat.  Just a generically available interconnect harness with an output pigtail to make the trailer connections to.

Originally had in this same place a Harley supplied interconnect harness that came with the lighted saddlebag latches.  It was much larger than this piece.  Cut off the output legs from that large interconnect piece and tied them together with the output legs to the trailer.  Overall actually using less space in there than was using before.

Only issue with this was a power isolator supplied by Bushtec with the hitch.  Their literature described it as recommended to isolate power to the trailer from any other source power or potential feedback problems on the bike.  Trouble was it failed ASAP.

It worked fine with just the lights on the trailer.  First time I turned on the trailer's interior light while also operating the brake lights it failed though.  Found a couple of online reviews and some remarks by a member here that all suggested the part can be a weak point.  So the final hook up was without it, with LEDs in the trailer and with small in-line fuses in the output legs to the trailer.  It should work fine.

Twolane,

Did you buy the street glide fender extension painted red or did you match paint it?  Did you connect the fender extension with 3M double sided tape or drill holes?

thanks...Scott

Ok, to someone to whom I owe a beer because I forgot their name; that's where it all fits.

Scott, the fender extension wasn't available in a red.  It's only available in Street Glide colors and none of them match the SEEG.  This one started out blue before it got painted.

It is currently installed with the 3M emblem tape.  It is very firm on the bottom where it tucks up under the fender.  My only concern are the thin bands on the verticals.  I won't hesitate to drill a hole in each side to add a bolt to support the tape if it looks to be necessary.

Scott, your question reminded me of something.  The Street Glide extension does a nice enough job of hiding most of the hitch.  One other thing the combination does, however, is potentially require a bit more work later on.

The center bracket of the hitch will have to come off to replace the bulb assembly in the Street Glide extension when that LED should some day fail.  Not a big deal.  Just a little extra.

I just installed the fender extension on my 07 SEUC yesterday.  It currently is the diamond black Street Glide color - which actually looks pretty good.  I may not paint it red after all - which was my original plan.  I also installed it with 3m tape - we will see how it works.  I am a bit concerned about the side vertical bands also - and I also will not hesitate to find a better method - even drilling a couple of holes if necessary.  I put it on to hid my Bushtec hitch - just as you have done...
