I just got a call today.  I have a new fairing coming for my  .  I believe I posted in the summer or fall of 2005 that I had a quarter sized spot on my fairing just above the spots that was cracking and peeling paint.  The MoCo refused to cover it saying it was a large rock chip.  I had the area rep look at it to no avail.  I quit riding the bike (the more I rode it the worse it got) and quit spending money on parts and accessories.  The dealer finally agreed to split the cost of re-painting the fairing with the MoCo and I got the re-painted fairing mounted last winter.  It looked like it was brand new. The spot re-appeared during a 2 week trip to the Southwest last June.  Same place , but not as bad.  I rode the bike until Dec. and then made another warranty claim.  I met with the area rep a week and a half ago and learned today that the new fairing was ordered.  My tech and service manager went to bat for me after the tech took one look at the bike and exclaimed "it's in the exact same spot".  Apparently, everyone now agrees that the plastic was not properly prepped at the factory.

Dan, the time may not be a factor since your bad one is still on the bike.  But if your dealer can swap inventory with another shop there are two or three dealerships around the country that have a  outer fairing in stock. 

Only reason I know this is I bought one last week.  Mine wasn't the victim of any original flaw as yours was.  Just many many divots.  Had gotten really bad.  My local shop gave me phone numbers of the dealers nationwide reporting active inventory for the part.  I decided I wanted to get a replacement on a Saturday and had the fairing in hand the following Wednesday.  Beat hell out of waiting 6-12 weeks for painted parts.

By the way, since they now accept the fact that warranty was necessary is the dealership going to give you back your half of the repaint cost?

Actually, I didn't pay for the paint, the MoCo and dealer split the cost.  Thanks for the tip on the fairings in dealer hands.  I'll let them know about it today and have them so a search and see if we can't get one here that way.
