2019 CVO Road Glide Heated Grip Install
« on: April 02, 2019, 10:58:43 AM »

How much of a pain is it to install heated grips on the 19's? I was thinking about getting some & maybe having the dealer install them even; if their price isn't out of line. So far I'm liking the stock Road Glide handlebars the little bit I rode on the bike.

I imagine the handlebars have to be pulled and wire ran down to the base to (believe there is) a connector in place for heated grips?

TIA

Have you looked into Heat Demons?

Heat Demon controller won’t fit the Road Glides unfortunately otherwise that’s the way I’d go.

I'd rather just stay with HD parts. Plus, if the dealer does it it should fall under extended warranty.

Not sure how hard it is.  I had my dealer install the Yaffe 14" bars and Kahuna heated grips from the CVO street glide before delivery.  They work great, love them.

I did the same as Dave but on 14" Factory 47's. For some reason the heated grips on the 2 bikes I have had with canbus (19 RG and 17 SG) don't get as hot as my 12 RG but still great to have when you need them.

I'll have to call the dealer and see what they want to install them.

Why do they not work on RG? looks like there is room after the bracket on the handlebars.

I had HD heated grips on last two CVO's and wanted to switch to heat demons so you can buy any grip you want instead of the ridiculously over priced HD heated grips.

I watched the Heat Demons install video and it tells you to mark where to drill hole for wires, so not sure why they cannot work on a  RG, any insight?

Thanks

On the website it says

Fits most Harley-Davidson models, regardless of handlebar size or throttle type, including fly-by-wire - please note the heat controller is not a direct fit for Road Glide models with the elongated perch clamp.

I have thought about whether the clamp could be cut to neatly accommodate the controller but have not had time to really look into it in detail. Any suggestions welcome as I installed them on my 14 SERK and they were great. I would also like to keep my stock grips.

I agree that the controller would be kind of far from the grip, that may be a safety issue while trying to adjust while riding, however, it looks to me like you could make it fit if you didn't mind the reach to use it

What would it clamp to? You would have to have a back to it as it clamps to the stock Harley clamp.

Not in video I watched. It shows their housing attaches to handlebars after housing:

Look again it replaces standard clutch perch cap.  I would put an inline fuse in though.

Heat Damon also makes one that is installed between the grip and the handle bar and comes with a two position Hi/low toggle.
