95 cu in engine issues

I am thinking of buying a 2001 Screamin eagle and was wondering if anyone knows of issues to be on the lookout for or be expecting at certain mileages? Thanks

MM fuel injection also not so good. Oil dipstick can be forced out due to venting issue. But overall the 2001 engine is good. The frame and rear engine mounts are weak and a wobble is possible on hard leans. The radio is good, but the main wiring in the neck will get broken wires over time making the rear speakers go in and out, And also cause the cruise to quit from the wires which attach to the throttle cable.
So other than the cam tentioners killing the motor, the bad handling, the wiring and (forgot the charging issue) sketchy electronics...

One more to the list, some early 2001s had the early ball cam bearings in the rear, a problem the factory acknowledged. Was a fix for free back in the day if they failed.
They went to a spined cam and timken style rear bearing. All of that can be updated with 07-16 twin cam hydra chain setup with a cam change, to the Andrew's n series

I had an '01 and agree on all counts. The Magnetti-Marelli fuel injection is difficult to work with, and finding new replacement parts is a challenge. And the charging system is very weak, often frying the stators. The swing arm is the old "box style" that often cracks near the shock mount. But it's a beautiful bike.

1. Swap out the M&M fuel injection for a carb, or upgrade to Delphi.
2. Change out the charging system from HD to Cycle Electric system.
3. Change out the rear swing arm to an '02 or later.

tge Only item on those years that really needs doing is the rear cam bearing.  After that fix what breaks.  Crank etc is better than current.    HD does not carry many parts for pre 03 bikes

Hello,
  I have the 01 CVO RD Glide. Some days the MM fuel injection can have a mind of it's own. I replaced the computer a week after a dealer re flash (Stage II). Done the engine temp sensor twice. And when the Screamin' Eagle cam plate and pump was installed it blew the dipstick across the shop on first fire up. It had never done that before. I put in a new dipstick and it hasn't happened since.  The majority of the issues have come after upgrades, but what fun would no upgrades be. Most other owners of MM Injection have had some of the same issues. Like what was already said in this thread, parts are becoming scarce. Also finding a Tech that can do the hot and cold idle setup etc.. might become an issue down the road. It has not been used on a Harley for almost 20yrs. Eventually I'll have to switch to a carb setup.
