I had been just letting my CUSE stay at the dealership until they could get the chrome voltage regulator in and installed.  I got a call last week and it is done.  I don't care to go back and look, but I'm guessing that it was at least four to five weeks for them to get it done.

I asked the dealer to order the "recall kit" and it's been 7-8 weeks. I assume that is reasonably normal as a test, FIRST I told them I wanted to buy a new chrome regulatory and were they in stock yet.......got any excited reply that YES, they were in stock.

Then asked them where MY regulator was and got the "oh, yeah, there are special wires that come with the recalled regulator."

Does this sound reasonable to anyone?

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the recall part was a different number.  Call another dealer and ask if there's a difference.

According to my dealer it is a different PN, but it appears to be the same unit.  I suspect it's only a different PN so the moco can track how many get done.

More likely is that the recall part is sold to dealers at a very reduced cost so the dealer makes a small margin on the recall part, saving the MoCo $$$$.  It's the latest way to hose the dealers by mfr's, for example with a recent brake switch recall by one mfr, the part sold for $25.00 prior to the recall but the recalled part came out at a price of $3.25.

Since dealers get a 40% margin on most parts based on the retail selling price, do the math, 100,000 times $25.00/40% versus 100,000 times $3.25/40%.

The notices usually start out, "Dear Dealer Partner" the only problem is it's a one way partnership in most cases.

If they'd only give you a kiss now and then, or at least use a little vaseline, it might not be so bad.  Unfortunately the dealers are stuck in between a rock and a hard place.  The customers don't want to pay anymore, the factories want to charge more, so it's often the dealer getting the short end.

Roger,

Love that one, hadn't seen it before.  Having recently retired after 35 years with one of those manufacturers, I can vouch for your statements and commiserate with your situation.  Just so you won't feel like the lone stranger, however, rest assured they don't use that approach just on the dealer body.  The employees also get that "partner" or "team" BS on a regular basis.  Everything is "teamwork" when discussing the latest sacrifices the employees must make to help the company.  Then senior management slips in bonuses for themselves, even though the incompetent assholes lost $12B in the past year and had to mortgage the entire company.  I really miss the old days when folks told it like it was rather than try to make me believe in fairy tales, the easter bunny, Santa Claus, etc.  Just tell me to grab my ankles, I'm smart enough to figure it out from there.

Thanks Jerry, it is almost commical.

Never changes either, the next management team will tell the same stories and ask for everyone's buy in, then the next team after them and so on and so on.

Oh well, as long as we keep on keepin' on I guess it'll be alright.

It is comical, Rog and Jerry.  This institution I work for spent thousands of hard to come by dollars a few years ago on TQM - Total Quality Management.  All team based, rah-rah, brainstorming, etc.  Fantastic concept, and it actually works.  What came out the other side of all that "training" was that the people in management who manage by that "style" by NATURE, because they know inherently that it's the right way to manage people to get the most out of them and learn the most in the process....continued to practice their management techniques as before.  All the A$$HOLES who had always been a-holes, also went to the training...they were still a-holes when they got through.  "Team" to them means THEY are the team, and if you do things their way, you're a team player, otherwise you are a disgruntled employee who disagrees with "management".

My bike's in the shop with what I think is a bad regulator, even though mine is outside the recall months.  It's on backorder, even though the dealer was supposed to have ordered one over two weeks ago, which I doubt.  I'll get to the bottom of it tomorrow.

I swear, these dealer parts dept and service areas don't ever talk to each other!!  Bike's been there since Tuesday AM...I wouldn't have even taken it in and left it there if I'd known the part was on BO.

They might have to put a black one on so I can ride to G'burg next Friday, or we'll be on the V, or in a cage.
