Roger, this picture looks like it has been doctored a little.  I don't recall Schlitz having that much color;

Noticed the same thing, Mrs. We, thanks to Rog's pic I did a little search & found this:

"The Schlitz brand name is owned by Pabst, and Schlitz beer is brewed for them on a contract basis by a Miller brewery. You can still often find the beer in places like Texas or the Milwaukee area, but it's nothing like the old Schlitz beer that was so popular until the 70s."

  Artistic license of the new brewer I imagine.  Wikipedia says that the collapse of the company was because they tried to change to a heat fermentation process which failed to produce the quality they once had and a disastrous strike in the early 80's.

In 1976 it was the number 2 brewery in the USA.  My how the worm turns, here today/gone tomorrow.

I think that may be old info, the new site indicates they have started brewing with the old formula in 2007.  Hell I don't know, maybe it's like Candy says, colored water adn tastes like "animal beer"

OK, I don't know - is that the Duke brothers?

But the Old Milwaukee ----- we used to buy it as boat beer in cans (when we had a boat.)  It was not very strong, seems that we would really feel the affects of alchohol when bobbin out in the ocean on a hot day, we used cans so no glass could get lost on the boat and come back to bite anyone and the price was sinfully cheap $6.00/24 pack at the PX.

Not good tasting, but it surprisingly refreshing there.  Would not drink the stuff on dry land.

Consolidation isn't always good for the community.  It was a big employer back then.

Chip, I still buy it, it's one of the best buys in the market here.

If we're at the lake it doesn't much matter after the first couple anyway.  MGD is nearly twice as much as the old "champagne of beers"
